Cookie's NA6

Postby cookie » Tue Dec 24, 2013 11:30 am

Hi there, as you may have seen (and apologies for spamming the for sale thread) I've bought Ron's old Malibu.

First RWD, but I've had a few astinas so the motors and general Mazda way is pretty similar.

Here's a photo of my project too. Also an astina with 1.9L motor, 9.5:1 wiseco's on eagle rods, arp studs, 725cc ID injectors, adaptronic 440D, vf10 hybrid turbo, rx7 brakes with 320mm wrx on custom hats. Lots of mazdaspeed stuff (a spec kit with the Huge wing, gear knobs, handbrake covers, seats etc)

But anyway heres a few photos from last night.

Seems like a very helpful community and look forward to meeting you soon.

Do all malibu's look this bright or is it the photos?

May be a dumb question but the ones I've seen in the metal have been different. Maybe just old paint.
NA6 turbo - 140kw atw - not the most powerful but so much fun :D

Speed you will find that the colour is from the exposure length, unless Photoshop was used to enhance. I would put my money on the duration of the exposure. Many years ago you would have picked a film that matched what colours you wanted enhanced, from memory Fuji Velvia had a great bias towards yellows.

Just FYI Mark, exposure length won't be the cause for the apparent brightness here. Both those shots used light painting. Focused on the car of course, everything else will be dim in comparison. Also editing to increase saturation etc. White balance would have been set so that whatever the light source was (probably LED lights, a torch or something along those lines) will be the colour that the camera perceives as 'true white'. As long as they were white LEDs, the white balance will be true to life, and the vivid yellow will just be a result of editing.

Velvia 50 tended to go more hard on blues/greens and cooler colours, Velvia was always a lot more highly saturated than Kodachrome. Kodaks tended to be a bit warmer.

Even their neg films are still the same (obviously not as good as slide though) I shoot a mix of Superia200 and Ektar100.
The Ektar is certainly a lot warmer than the Superia.

Thats right mate! I got the chance to size up cookies' astina and mx5 projects side by side and after much thought I figured my current engine would be much better suited to the mx5s' weight. I guess you'd know where the 5 is coming from haha.

Sorry for spamming up your thread Ryan :D

Lol. I never even saw any of these replies. The colour is virtually like the illuminated maccas signs to give you an idea. Fantastic and yet to see another to compare.

Updates are in order I guess...the car is in pieces.

Bought fitted and sold a pair of those white mazdaspeed seats in first pic.

Brakes are now nb8b ones.

Motor was turboed with a t28 but sold everything and started converting my SOB equipped built bp from the Astina to rwd.

Sold the 5 speed and bought a 6. Bought and fitted a 4.3 t2. Now swapped that for a 3.6 t2

Gave lots of money to nitrodann and hopefully will get something special in the form of new manifold, intercooler piping, dump pipe and exhaust in stainless! Running a slightly bigger gt2871rs. 0.64 trim.

Sold the koni/kings and will be replaced with mcas.

Sold the rims and the set that replaced those also. Went with 15x9 advanti s1 in grey.

Awaiting a parcel with IL engine mounts 35mm koyorad rims and a few other pieces.

Also purchased a set of very well know and contiversial number plates too.

Will be selling the BD bar if anyone's keen for something with harness support. (Mx5+ tallboy)

No photos yet but promise updates when everything arrives.

Thanks.

I will take that bar if you like. Send us an sms on what you want for it and any other bits and bobs you may have that I need. I will be up that way on wednesday so if you read this before then give us a yell and see if we can arrange something. 8)

Wow big changes.
I'm keen for a ride if available once it's all finished.

Happy to return the favour in the s15
