Car reving high at idle......2000rpm

Postby sticky nicky » Sat Apr 18, 2015 7:39 pm

Hi, my turbo'd mx5 has started reving high at around 2000rpm while idling. It revs high on start up then drops as it should, then within 15 seconds goes up to around 2000rpm and stays there. Everything else seems normal, any ideas?

Because the car has an adaptronic only people very familiar with adaptronics can really answer you.

It needs to go to a.tuner I'm sorry.

probably not communicating with the water temp sensor or similar, maybe iac. but if it hasn't has a tune out of the box, then that is the first port of call.

Does the idle change when the car is in gear, and clutch is pushed in.

I had a problen6 with my turbo NA6. Turns out there out there is a switch that is activated by the clutch. This switch and one on side of gearbox influence the idle via the ECU. I fixed the faulty clutch switch and all was good. This was with a link/FM ECU. Also applies to the OEM ECU, and therefore should apply to an adaptronic ECU.

Worth a look.

Ok, so today I took it to the tuners and the problem was an air leak on the intake manifold. There is a small, short metal tube coming from the rear of the manifold (under a load of wiring) that must just have a bung over it, this had come off. So the tuner put another on and that fixed the problem. He ran it on the dyno and checked everything via the ECU and all good, runs and idles like a dream now !
