Adding oil - it's just like cooking isn't it?

My (blonde) cousin decided to check her oil at a servo one day. Undid the oil cap, couldn't see any oil, then bought 1l and poured it in. Still couldn't see oil. Bought another 1l, then 4l, etc. just kept filling the motor till she could see the oil was "full".

I just spoke to a guy who drained the oil on his car, refilled it. Drove it 5 metres.
Discovered he drained the transmission, and just added an extra 5 litres of oil to the motor without having drained it.

Would have been fine in an old mini ;)

And that video is surely fake, as if someone would just happen to film her while doing that. It's probably corn syrup.

I don't want my insurance premiums to go into a pot that includes paying out Clio man.

Oil maybe... :)

My brother had a Mini SS and asked a girlfriend to put the hose in the radiator to top up the water while he turned on the tap. (he could not see the engine) Three minutes later water was still going in and he asked me to check. Found she had put the hose in the Oil cap and was filling the motor with water.....

Was fun to drain as 5 liters of water came out first then the oil on top. A little messy.

In proper old Minis the oil was shared with the gearbox. If it was an auto the condition of the oil and of the motor would determine how much the gears would slip.

Before I had the engine rebuilt, my old Mini Clubman's engine bay always looked like I'd just poured the oil in there like that ...

:BROADY:

First thing I did was look for the oil under the car - that's funny, they don't show it, and that would be the best punchline so it was suss from the get go for me. Probably didn't want you to see the big drip tray down there!

That was my point. Oil is shared between gearbox and engine. :)

Some years ago I bought a low km Astra (yes, I know) for my daughter at a very good price at my friendly local wrecker. They had bought it very cheaply for its otherwise excellent condition. The engine was said to be blown (ie stuffed). They took the head off just to see and found it was full of oil - that's why it didn't turn over. They put a new headgasket on, drained the oil and I bought a cheap car.
