URGENT mobile auto elec needed SE Melbourne

Postby davekmoore » Sat Apr 11, 2015 10:05 am

So the EFI relay and maybe other electrical gremlins decided not to wait until it was booked in next Thursday and it simply wouldn't start this morning.

Supposed to be at Calder Park tomorrow.

I'm at work in Frankston and the car is in Mornington so need to know about any mobile auto elecs who might be available PLEASE.

Now sorted thanks.

22 amp EFI relay blew causing 15 amp fuse in cabin to starter motor relay to fail. Replaced fuse, installed uprated 40 amp relay.

I would STRONGLY recommend NOT just sticking larger fuses in to stop it blowing. It is quite simply the worst thing you can ever do when an electrical issue pops up.

Of course, if the fuse was drastically undersized from the start then ok, but usually they're pretty close.

If you're pulling more than the originally rated 22 amps, or sufficiently high enough to blow that fuse, it would probably be a good idea to check what the wiring is rated at as well ...

Thanks for that guys. 22 amps was the original relay. It was fine until the higher flow fuel pump went in. When the relay blew it was replaced by the auto elec who did the fuel pump with a 40 amp one which didn't fit properly in the fuse/relay box under the bonnet. That worked fine for three months until I replaced it with a correctly fitting one, not realising it was a 22 amp one. The car has since blown several relays and is due to go to a specialist auto elec to check all wiring, sizes, earths etc next Thursday. As the 40 amp relay seemed to cause no issues for three months I'm hoping it will be ok for the next 5 days.
