Shifter and turret lube

Postby davekmoore » Mon Apr 06, 2015 5:11 pm

Should the shifter and the turret in an SE 6 speed have any kind of lube/grease etc on any of the parts?
UK since return: Standard NC2 (horrid), C200K, ND2 BBR, NC2 BBR200 (loved it), NC BBR300 (better than BARMY), V-Special, turbo NB8B (my 84th car)

i just put a smear of synthetic grease over everything(kluber grease)when i replaced bush and boots.
i think whatever lube you put in the shifter area makes it way into your gearbox so i wouldn't be putting too much on.
its not like there is anything moving fast or underload in there...depending on your gearshanges :D
i could be wrong tho i never looked it up.

Prety sure the 6 speed is lubed from the main part of the box, but 5 speed definitely needs lube in the turret

oil is not circulated through the turret on a 6 speed.
there is no metal to metal contact so just a bit of grease smeared on when assembling is ok.

Should be all good, but I used black all purpose lithium grease.
Seemed to be a bit thicker.

I should clarify that that is just on moving parts in the turret (gear lever pivot etc), not in the actual gearbox ;)
