mania cai to fit na8
Hi guys I've recently saw a mania cai for sale which I plan to get fitted at mx5mania however I was not sure if it fits my na8 as it was on a nb series 1 earlier. Also were the older mania intakes blue instead of chrome ? And I've noticed many intakes having oxidisation at the end, does this affect its operation ?

Re: mania cai to fit na8
The MX5 Mania pod filter & carbon fibre pipe CAI used on an NB8A should fit an NA8. The pod filter was a Simota pod filter which were available in different colours. MX5 Mania tended to use the chrome coloured pod filter, but it's possible they used other colours early on, or that the previous owner had to replace the pod filter cover, or even that a previous owner bought the carbon fibre pipe & then bought their own Simota pod filter.
Which end? Have you got a pic? By oxidisation, do you mean rust, or do you mean there's a build-up of carbon? Won't affect the operation of the CAI unless it's actually damaging the carbon fibre or the pod filter, but it would be best to identify what it is & why it's occurring in case it has consequences for the motor.

Re: mania cai to fit na8
thanks for the detailed response. Seeing as sound is the main benefit im looking at, as long as its the same as a genuine mania CAI i'll be happy. Also the reason why I was unsure it would fit was because on the mania site it says "the bracket and length of carbon tube will vary depending on model" but I suppose it could be made to fit ? Referring to the rust, I've got a few pics i'll add.

For fitting to the NA8 with minimum of fuss you'll need the carbon fibre tube alone (so not including the pod filter) to be at least 30cm long. Might just be the pic, but your carbon fibre tube looks shorter, although it could still be made to fit. Similarly re the bracket you may need to adapt or make a new one. You can even leave the bottom half of the factory airbox in place, & mount a bracket between the MAF & bottom half of the airbox, which will then provide some support to the pod filter.
Ah, on base of pod filter - guess it depends where it spent its life with pod filter fiited, ie parked out in open near the beach.

Re: mania cai to fit na8
turns out the carbon tube itself is only 21cm, the whole thing being 40cm, so a fair bit less from what you've mentioned. I do plan on getting it fitted at mania and perhaps they could find a solution ?

I'm sure MX5 Mania will be able to find a solution.

If the NA8 air flow metre is round fitment then you can simply add a pipe between the AFM and the filter with a rubber/silicone joiner.
Brackets are as simple as an L shaped bit of metal using existing holes in teh car.
The oxidation, that looks to me like it's just rust coming through the chrome base, it won't hurt anything, it's just visual. If it concerns you you can give it a rub over with some steel wool to remove the rust, then polish with metal polish (this depends how deep the rust is)
as far as sound, genuine mania or not it will do the job, I had a DIY intake for a while that sounded the same as a Mania, it just didn;t look as pretty.
What I can recommend though is that you clean the filter before installing it, once in the car it's annoying to clean so you may as well do it now.
(I got rid of my one because the combination of having to clean the filter (takes a few hours for it to dry) and that the intake position means the filter gets dirty very fast nwas very annoying)
