Re: Insuring your MX-5?
I went with Budget when we got the NC2
Shannons was great with the NA, but wanted around $1400 for the NC
AAMI was $800
Budget $600
All at the same address, garaged etc as for the last 28 years
All for the same agreed value, rating 1 for life
Shannons weren't interested in reducing their price at all even after we had been with then for years with the NA

Re: Insuring your MX-5?
Have you considered RACV's classic car insurance? It was circa $350 for full comprehensive and includes roadside extra care for my 2000 NB8A.
Conditions were less than 10,000 kms a year, garage and car older than 15yrs.

Don't forget, those who want track cover up to $10k (max coverage) try Famous Insurance Agency.
they are a CAMS partner now so who knows how long shannons will have the cams mates rates...!

Re: Insuring your MX-5?
Just swapped insurance on NA8 from Budget to Shannons
Shannon's would insure for my "agreed value"....$12,000
Budget would only cover an "agreed value" of Red book value+ 10% max....$8,500
that's assuming my low k car would be judged at the top of the red book value
Premium was 1.5 times Budget....but that works out about same/dollar insured
They are all Lovely whilst collecting the premium....how the act when you make a claim shows their value

My partner has had to make claims with Shannons in the past and they were good to deal with, good repairs all that.

One claim with Shannons, no questions or problems, repair bill wasn't that far short of the value of the car too!*
* (other insurers will write off a vehicle when the repair bill exceeds 60% of the insured value rather than take the risk of further issues/costs post repair)

Re: Insuring your MX-5?
Had 1 claim with shannons with daily driver and worst exp.
thing is suncorp group have centralized claims for gio, just cars, shannons, apia, aami etc so before you'd have a dedicated shannons person doing claim npw u get someone who wont know much with enthusiasts cars
Mind u the house claim we had was great - goes to show that they need their own claims section for motor.

Re: Insuring your MX-5?
Got my Shannons insurance renewal in the mail today. The SP is becoming a pain in the ass to insure. it has gone up $120 from last year to $1655.69 a year, agreed value of just $13000.
How much are other people paying for insurance on their SP? The price is becoming a bit of a joke to me and is making me want to sell up.

How do you have it insured? As a daily or less frequent?
My SE is insured for $15K (55% NCB) as a not more than twice a week drive and it costs ~$730 p.a........

Re: Insuring your MX-5?
Green Comet give RYNO insurance a call.
Remembering that the unicorn is not daily dríven but my renewal came in today.
Half what Shannon's quoted you and the valuation was a lot higher than yours.
They're not interested in normal mx-5's and realise that SP's are a little bit special.
I've been with them since 2009 since the other mob who didn't know what a SP was also tried to tell me I wasn't an enthusiast.
Good luck sorting it out.

I sold my SP late last year, but was paying about $800 with agreed value of $28k and a few mods with Shannons. Let me know if you want to sell yours for $13k ;)

Re: Insuring your MX-5?
I just got a quote from Shannons for my SE, looking to move from NRMA who I was with for the past 12 months.
NRMA wanted a Premium of $595 and an excess of $600, at an agreed value of $13,750, with no mods listed.
Shannons want $653 and an excess of $500, at an agreed value of $20,000, with mods listed (suspension, exhaust, intake).
Seems like Shannons is the winner to me!
