OpenFOAM is the software the person was using, it's FOSS so like all FOSS software, it'll only cost you time and a little bit of sanity

In the time it's taken to compile it (not using ubuntu, so no packages for me) I've found the following:

The big forum had a discussion about this a long while ago, people were sharing data, they found an "expert" and then ... nothing happened for years. They ended up coming to the conclusion in the posts I've already linked.

The most complete model I can find - has a flat bottom, no roof or wheels, and the mouth is closed.

As you say, that stuff has been around for a while, but the new bit is the wing, that is very interesting.

Also interesting is his work on diffuser performance, my reading of those results was the best shape is one we really never, or rarely, see!! Nobody has responded to my post querying my interpretation so I remain confused (as usual ).

I read it the same way green, "number 6" being the best design all round (lowest drag, best downforce) - i'm guessing we dont see it because it lets no air into the front of the car, so most likely useless for mx5s given how often we see posts about heat issues in and around the front of a '5 (and let's not forget that it's ugly as sin )

Having said that a "number 4" is basically a GV lip, GV deflectors, and something flat to make the actual diffuser to sit below it all. Basically, this guy's front end: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vz6ikUxr98g

The closest i can recall to a "number 6" design are v8 supercars and nascars, but they're still putting holes in the front of the car to let air in:
