Exactly.

There's no reason to be rude in general, even more so when you are selling items.

I've had ridiculously low offers for items I have sold in the past, and I've always responded politely "thank you for the offer, but it's a bit lower than what I was looking for, would you be willing to pay closer to $X?"

it's free, keeps people happy, and is more likely to get a sale than "piss off mate"

Of course, the way the potential; buyer carries themself has an effect on how low I'm willing to go on price.
I've given stuff away because people have been really polite and nice to deal with. (actually a few close friends I've met have been ones that bought old car parts from me years ago)

People asking top money for poor condition parts, in many cases asking more than what the parts costs new.

Cars, bikes, boats , houses, TVs. loaf of bread, underpants if you dont want to pay whats been asked thats NOT the sellers problem its your problem .

I hate dealing with tight ass idiots that take up my time when I sell a product and its exactley what want but they dont want to pay my asking price . I just tell them to piss off its not like Im forceing them to pay my asking price . Tis always someone out there that will pay the sellers asking price the seller just need to sit back and let it happen in its own time Many years ago I sold a 100% restored VW Country Buggy it took me 18 month to sell I was asking 10 times what they were selling for I ended up selling to a Car Museum for my asking price and yes I did check the market price but that didnt suit me !

Depends on the product you are selling.

I would image the vw would be very rare? I know nothing about them but i do know the combi vans are very rare now especially restored.

Without flogging a dead horse. An 11 year old car is not going to attract a buyer if the price is 18k with 100-120k on it. But hey maybe it could. I've been wrong before. I remember in 1988 i was sure santa visited at Christmas.
what happens, like with cars anywhere. It'll sit on gumtree or carsales for 6 months then. They will drop it to 17990. Saying ohh this wont last long at this price. Meanwhile in the description it will still have. The car is great value at 18k.
As for the No time waster comments in ads. How about this if you have something for sale and have it at some bullshit price you are wasting everyone else's time.
Then they turn their nose up at you for wanting to have the car checked out. I mean how dare you somehow insinuate that this 11 year old car I have for sale is anything other than immaculate so therefore you are wasting my time by asking about it or making an offer on it. Like you should be taking some random's word and just hand over 18k because that is pocket change... clearly.

By the way do a search on a 2004 mx5 in wa. Originally wanted 15k. Looked at it. 'Oh its a great car excellent condition'. Yeah right to the point where the chassis is bent like a banana. Notice how there are no pictures of the right side of it.. And it probably shouldn't be on the road as another impact in the right rear would probably be quite horrible for anyone who's  driving it

Love the people saying "I GOT TEN GRAND ABOVE RED BOOK" and "10x WHAT OTHERS WERE ASKING"

Redbook makes me laugh. They have never bought or sold a single car and have no contact number that you can ring asking them to do so.

Each car needs to be judged on it's merits and will generally receive the price that the car and it's advert deserves. A house in a poor suburb might sell for a much as the cheapest in a rich suburb but it will be the best house in the place. Cars are no different.
