Good to see you're still looking, MrBrad
It really is a waiting game, and being ready to jump when the car comes along. As summer winds down hopefully more cars will come to market and start to drive some competition.

If looking, I'd be willing to pay 10k for a well sorted turbo NA.
Not interested in NBs,
Before I bought my na, I scoured the classifieds for turbo na's. There just wasn't any.
Sometimes you just need to find the right buyer.

THIS ONE has popped back up - a huge good luck with that . Needs to at least knock the 1 off the front of the price....
Err I mean seriously...

Really, how many clean 50k NA's are out there, if I wanted the best unmolested car I could find this car would be on my list.
This could fit into concourse at a show and piss on all the old and beaten cars that have been done up.
These are cars that people buy when they want the best and really, 16k is beer money for a lot of people.
If I had a lazy 16 laying around for the best NA out there this would be on my short list.
Not everyone wants to drive around, show, club car or garage a beater that cost 5k.
I say this will go to someone who will put it in a garage and takeout once every blue moon.
And to modify it would be a crime.
Save your pennies, someday you may buy something special.

I have had a look at that red NA last week at the dealers.
You can't fault it, its like it just came out of the factory.
i think $16k is a reasonable price for this car, if i was after one id happily hand over the cash.

Stupid statement when you haven't even seen it in the flesh

I have seriously look at this car a few times and if I ONLY had extra garage space I would own it by now its worth every cent .
My wife just sold a car $8500 over red book $$ and it was the most expensive on car-sales for 3 months BUT she got what
she wanted so is she unintelligent ? smart business lady or ???. Any car under $16000 is beer money a couple of 1000s here or there makes little difference to someone that wants a prestine example . Junk is easy to find

Um ok .. not wanting to start an arguement as unlikley anyone here is seriously interested (or it would be sold) .... it's over priced and no not a concourse winner...
I can fault the missing centre horn pad and the faded hood lining ... the paint will fade on the front and rear bumpers and mirrors - the early ones always did (only if you actually want to drive it in the sun of course)..
Anyway carry on with it...

I'd still buy the red NA over that NB8A... because me. I'm happy no ones buying it, so that later on if I do have them money, I can.
p.s. This conversation is so stupid.

Re: Do MX-5 drivers ever check the market when selling?
I'm pretty set on an SE now, I always liked the SE. I don't want to get a modified car or start tweaking one, been there done that and got the T-Shirt
I did drive a few 01-04's but I think I'd always regret not getting the SE... I'm thinking in red. (Because they go faster right...)
Don't worry ManiacLachy I've been jumping at a couple.. being on the other side of the country is a bit of a problem but eventually I'll find one.... one got sold, pending finance, told the guy to call me when it fell through. - finance fell through (why would you go looking to buy a car and not have finance in order, at the very least an approval done), then someone bought it before I could organise the car to be looked at...
I cracked it last week and test drove a 2014 Abarth EsseEsse... man they are very very quick, pretty impressive little cars... The air con plastics and stereo look very cheap and nasty though and look out of place for the interior.. But overall awesome little car.
Lizard, you are right there will be people that will pay way more than the average for a car, but that is if it is in pristine condition and has a full history. A lot of these cars, be it the standard NB or the SE, that I have looked at anyway. Need a decent amount of work to get them to that price bracket. Can you imagine paying 10k for a 2002 NB with 110k on the clock and needing about 3k in body work to make it straight clean?
when you have people asking crazy prices for cars that need work like that it's hard to stomach. or if they don't have the log books. Or if they say have a NA head on an SE engine.

Re: Do MX-5 drivers ever check the market when selling?
I bought parts from a guy recently who paid 8k for a na with 60,000kms. Unfortunately he had to spend heaps on it as the car had just been sitting for years. Low kms is not everything.

It's not just car prices that can be unrealistic, I find some prices people ask for second hand MX5 bits to be laughable too.
People asking top money for poor condition parts, in many cases asking more than what the parts costs new.

Cars, bikes, boats , houses, TVs. loaf of bread, underpants if you dont want to pay whats been asked thats NOT the sellers problem its your problem .
I hate dealing with tight ass idiots that take up my time when I sell a product and its exactley what want but they dont want to pay my asking price . I just tell them to piss off its not like Im forceing them to pay my asking price . Tis always someone out there that will pay the sellers asking price the seller just need to sit back and let it happen in its own time Many years ago I sold a 100% restored VW Country Buggy it took me 18 month to sell I was asking 10 times what they were selling for I ended up selling to a Car Museum for my asking price and yes I did check the market price but that didnt suit me !

Re: Do MX-5 drivers ever check the market when selling?
I think Green-COmet is talking more about stuff like "Sparco SPrint V for sale, only used for 6 months before deciding I wanted more comfort - $500"
When you can buy brand new for the same.
Not to mention the countless coilovers and wheels being sold for only $50 below the new price, despite being used for a year or two.

buying and selling is about communication , negotiation and at the very least cordiality. Telling people to piss off is really unacceptable to most.
