from what I just read on miata turbo, miata.net. Some suggest sourcing the rx-7 AFM, others changing the spring in the afm... but it's a bit of a crazy journey to get good idle.

Keep searching and good luck, but you may be approaching a complex roadblock for something so simple. Be consious of how much of your time you're putting in and sundry costs.. it may be cheaper/more effective to go for a standalone ECU - but only you can decide that after careful consideration.

Keep experimenting with idle.. you could try straight to atmosphere, but then your fuel mixture will be off as it's unmetered air entering the engine. Next is playing with the DTB setup and then finally AFM spring / another AFM.

For your information - a standalone doesn't measure air volume, it measures manifold air pressure. Meaning BOVs, idle from external don't matter as it measures air direct from the intake manifold.

Hope you get there.

p.s make sure you've confirmed your base timing is set correctly before playing with timing (i'm sure you have)

Wait til you see nitrospeeds welds.. Just kidding, they are nowhere near pretty :(

Let me know when fitting your roll bar. I'll come play if I'm not working on mine ;)

Speed, Re rolling the ends of your piping for the IC, the one I got had just had some beads of weld around the top of the pipes to give the clamps something to grip against, may be cheaper and easier than getting someone to roll it for you.

RX7 AFM running transplanted & tweaked MX5 NA6 AFM complete internals is better still:

But if going aftermarket ecu you won't need the AFM. Just depends how much messing around you want to do pre ecu change.

Re welding a lip on the IC pipes. I had thought of that as a last resort but do appreciate your ideas :)

Probably will just go straight to another ECU, but will try to tune it first so it idles better......it was idling fine before installing the IC so we'll see.

Sweet. Glad you got the bilsteins in the end. If all goes to plan, I hope to be starting mine ( turning the key) on the weekend

So this kit came from Paulus? I'm wondering if it's one the two supercharger kits I made that are kicking around Australia... Though there was heaps made in the UK a few years ago.

Looks familiar. https://youtu.be/kdXBawtio8w Not my prettiest work if it is. (My video was made just after I bolted it on to check it for belt alignment - I installed an intercooler after I saw the intake temps!)

My advice: Do NOT run the thing without an intercooler! If you want some tips setting it up shoot me a message.

Get correct size belt. Make sure tensioner is very tight. I found by tuning the pre-charger throttle body it would stop the belt chirping and reduce the blower noise at small throttle openings. Obviously you get that whine whenever you stomp on it. With the factory size pulley the blower was quieter, but with the KAV's reduced it was a bit more "power drill".

It's been so many years since I had one of these I can't recall the belt size. I may have mentioned it in one of my previous forum posts...
