Hi all
Just left my car with Dave (mania) for Stage 2 upgrade for a SE but for whatever reason, it's only managed to pull 135rkw after installing the computer (which is roughly 5kw gain from my stage 1 upgrade).
The car is still with Dave but just curious to see if anyone experience similar problem
Thanks

BUt what does the dyno chart look like? Whats the Nm increase? Is there more area under the graph. It's not all about peak figures.

True - not sure as Dave is still looking into it but he mentioned he put it on the dyno and the power output is alot lower than norms
I will ask for a copy of the dyno chart tomorrow

On an SE, you should be able to achieve 135rwkw with just an AEM intake and dialing the boost up to 10psi with a MBC.
Are you still running the stock boost level of 7.5psi?
Hose leak?

Didn't Okibi end up at a fairly low power figure after his Adaptronic and assosicated bits as well? I know he's quite happy with the tune though, so maybe some cars just aren't hitting that high peak, but are otherwise great?

Re: Help - Stage 2 Mania upgrade
High peak HP isnt typically the goal of someone who knows what they are doing and who understands the relationship between HP torque and performance.
The goals are typically:
-High average power across the used rpm band, in each gear.
This is what gives strong consistant acceleration.
-Not exceeding a predetermined peak torque.
This is because torque is force where as horsepower is how fast you can repeatedly apply that force. The big peak force numbers is what bends rods, break gearboxes breaks traction etc. So this number should be monitored in order to protect those parts.
The last 3 tunes I did all had torque removed from the midrange, such is the breadth of the power curve they were setup to make, because in most cases this is where the performance AND driveability comes from.
I'm sure Dave will sort it out.

Thanks for all your comments
I'm definitely a newbie when it comes to modding the mx5 and hence appreciate the input. I do agree that drivability and having useable power is more important than chasing high kw numbers. The reason why I'm asking in the first place is because Dave found it weird that the power gain was so little from a stage 2 tune and I was just curious thats all.
Dave has resolved everything and I picked up the car this evening (after closing time of mania) and it felt pretty good. I will call Dave tomorrow to find out what was causing it all. But from speaking with him very briefly over the phone, I was told that it was due to the SMB exhaust.
i was told more than once before that the SMB exhaust is not the best, anyone else sharing similar view

Special Men's Business. Take from that what you will...
http://www.smb.net.au/research&development.htm.
Their intake for the SE is a fantastic design - it hides the intake in the passenger side wheel well, but the website is from about the time the SE came out.
