Are SVT motors that hard to find??

Morning all,
Got a mate looking at doing a track car on the 'cheap' (ha! little does he know!) and he has an NA body but wants an NB motor.
I suggested an SVT motor if he can find one - but we have been looking for ages to no avail.

Are these just rare now or what? Or people not crashing later model NB's!!??

If he cannot find an SVT motor, whats the next best NB motor out there to put in the NA?

Oh, and LS1 is out of the question.

I have one. 180K kms and a good runner.

No intake manifold, alternator or TB but everything else is there including exhaust manifold.

Asking $800. I might even be able to deliver at extra cost.

Alternatively, I have a peach of a motor in my black car that has done 60K kms with a full service history. This one is complete but I'd be after much bigger money for it, say $2K, as it is still in the car and I have plans for that one...

Both are VVT and would do the job.

when was it last started and do you recall last comp test if any?
he'd just need to find those parts, thats all thats needed? (intake manifold, TB and alternator?)

otherwise, one in the black car - you have plans for it but would sell it?

The $800 engine has been out of the car and sitting on our shop floor for around 6 months. Haven't done comp or leakage tests. Presumably your friend has a car that already has an alternator (and being NA it will be internally regulated) so all you will need is a NB intake manifold and TB. In this you have options depending on your intention for the car... A stocker, or a B16 mani with a flange swap, or ITBs... Depends on your budget and goals.

You will also need engine management for the VVT engine. Megasquirt, Haltech etc will cater for the VVT (as will the VVTuner box), unless you do a ECU swap from a NB8B (which will require an immobiliser, key and barrel swap too).

As for the black car... There is a thread somewhere on it. I have made ZERO progress on it for the past few months as the blue race car has been monopolising my time - a ground up rebuild of all the mechanicals, and that following my crash back in August last year...

Can also confirm that the NA8 TB fits on a NB flat top intake manifold (and most likely all NB intake manifolds), you'll just need to make a new throttle cable bracket if using the NA throttle cable.
Just went through a built NB SVT motor into NA8 swap, and was also missing a few parts.
You'll also need an ECU that can control the SVT.
I used VVTuner box from DIYautotune, as well as a megasquirt PNP2.

You get ABS, big brakes, 6 speed, motor, ecu, wiring loom, better seats, nicer soft top, etc etc. and you can sell all the stuff off your car, and bits off the smashed car. It's the cheapest way, and the best package. I have done 2 NB8B swaps into NA shells.

Not a bad option since both a NA6 and crashed NB8B can be had for $3K each. Another $1.5K for paint, and you have a nice ride.
