Option One also sell Khumos and will be pretty close to that price.

If you are spending the money, might as well get a set of wheels as well, it's only a few hunge extra :lol: :lol:

Option1 dont deal with Kumho any more.

They now sell Nittos instead.
I am quite happy with the Nitto Neogens as DD tyres.
Supplied and fitted by Opt1 very reasonably priced.

I took out the middle man, and ordered some KU31s (because that's what's already on there) from Tiresales.com.au and had them sent direct to Autmotive Plus, so when I pick the car up I'm all set and fitted :mrgreen:

I realise there are better performing tyres, but for now these are good. Eventually I'll get some 6UL wheels, and then I'll take another look at tyre options.

I'm looking for a second hand Haines Hunter with maybe 150hp Mercury so I can do coffee Sunday morning :roll:

FTR Bob Jane does Kumho and I believe around $170/corner but not sure for 17"

You don't really want one. It just seems like a good idea but they just sit out back for nearly 3 years and you don't even put 50 hours on it.
Then your wife won't go out in it because you drive to fast and she gets sunburnt and gets the shits when you keep changing spots trying to get that Kingy and worse of all she won't say "I'm giving all I've got Captain"

Man, I miss my car :( Driving the A3 around is boring, and quiet, and far too easy. Corners don't feel right, I sit too high, and my farmer's tan is fading!

I have my baby back! In the end, the following was done:
    Replaced upper and lower control arms on front passenger wheel
    Replaced wheel bearing and hub
    Replaced sub-frame
    2 new tyres
    New front brake pads (it was noticed they were well worn while everything was off)
    Alignment

Not a cheap day out at the track! Time to get on with it though, I can't wait for a few drives this weekend, I hope the weather clears.

So while my car was in the shop, I borrowed my old Audi A3 (DSG Automatic) from my brother who bought it from me when I got the 5. It was an interesting experience driving 2 cars for extended times that I've known so well. Normally you go from a car you know well to a new car - sure you notice differences, but the new car is entirely new to you. In this case I went from the 5 which I know very well now, to my old car which I knew very well for 5 years, then back to my MX-5.

The A3 is much quieter, much more refined over bumps (where I used to cringe or move to the side to avoid bumps I could drive straight over!), the AC didn't affect performance at all, I could see very well out of a high windshield, the car is deceptivly fast for how quiet it is (it's a 1.8 turbo as well by the way), but the DSG was often caught on the wrong foot/gear. Not much feedback through the car, very light steering, and even though A3s are thought of as a small car, it's much bigger than the MX-5. My brother just installed a double DIN Pioneer headunit with the works, it was nice to have a reverse camera, bluetooth phone and music, DAB radio, etc, but there is an pedantic lady in it who kept telling me "YOU are over the speed limit"! Very annoying - even if it was accurate :oops:

Back in the MX-5, weighty steering, weighty pedals, and great feedback everywhere. A steering wheel that just isn't in the right position for me, a basic radio with occasionally spotty reception, a lot more noise all around (good and bad I guess). I can power through corners much better, but I feel the car is lacking in performance. God-damn bumps in the road are keeping me on my toes again. I love the shift movement.

There are a lot of beneifts to a car like the A3, but it's boring, so boring. I'm happy to be back in my MX-5, but my time in the A3 has hightlighted a few things I'd like to fix when my savings build back up. I need to sort out the ECU/injectors/boost, to deliver more power, and smoother power. I need to get some 15" wheels on there for a softer ride (and other benefits). And I would love to find some seats that sit me a bit lower down (I was looking at the MS Type-F/Sport seats, but do they drop you much?). But that's all some time away, for now I want to drive some mountains!

Good news. Hopefully I will get mine back soon and be reminded of the reasons why it is a pain in the arse on public roads, but it is fun at the same time. Provided the MX5 keeps a smile on your face (despite the little nuances) then keep it, however if it feels like a chore maybe it is time to move on. I use this thinking in my real life job.

I feel you. I swap between my na 5 to a golf r32.
Wipers sometimes catch me out being on the other side.
The golf does everything so well with no effort that it makes the drive boring.
Does he a3 have s mode?

The MX-5 is no chore, it has character traits, not flaws. Lots of smiles still. Shouldn't be much longer now, Magpie.

Yeah, the A3 has an S mode, probably not as dynamic as a Golf R though, all this seems to do is keep to a lower gear and rev our more. No noticeable change to steering, suspension or throttle. Interestingly, while the wipers caught me out often, the blinkers didn't :S

Also, windows down and sunroof open in the A3 is no match for top down in the MX-5.
