mx5 OBD-II Ports

I recently brought some wireless obd2 diagnostic adapters and have sold a few on ebay.

Have had a couple of queries if they would work on an mx-5, but I don't know which model or year Mx5's came equipped with an obd-2 port.

Also read somewhere that the obd-ii ports on mx5's were mazda specific so you couldn't just plug a generic scanner because the port sizes were different...can someone please enlighten me on this.

They started putting them on the NB8C, first built September 2002. They're a standard OBDII plug.

They actually appeared on mid 2002 NB8Bs, along with the low fuel light and the boot lights coming on automatically when you open the boot. My car missed out by about 3 months

so is the obd2 port in the cabin of the vehicle or in the engine bay?

also, anyone here in Perth with a mid-2002 upwards NB free to meet up and willing to let me test this adapter on their car? just need to see what sensors & gauges will work on torque-pro and dash command. If you have a turbo nb even better...that way I can see if it will read boost pressure as well.

A turbod car will use a difft computer, thus deleting the OBD.

It's in the fuse box underneath the foglight switches. Earlier NB8Bs have an OBDII connector shaped hole there.

Anyone with an SE should have OBDII.

SE will display:

Speedo
Tacho
MAF
Load
Coolant
IAT1 (at the filter)
IAT2 (at the throttle body)
Timing advance
Throttle position sensor %
Voltage
O2 sensor voltage 0-1.0v (not AFR)
Fuel trim

Things it won't show which most people want:
AFR
Oil pressure
Oil temp
Boost pressure
Any fast moving gauges are too laggy for real world use (rpm for example is almost a full second delayed)

Think that's everything.

Thanks heaps, much appreciated.

Havent found any noticable lag on the rpm gauge on my evo, but it is kinda hard to simultanously see both the ipad display and the rpm meter on my dash...did find that the more readings u display the laggier the reponse, guess thats just data transfer via the wifi connection

My understanding is while the amount of info displayed will slow it down, the lag side of things is to do with the OBD port itself, or the specification of OBD used at the time.
Older cars are much slower than newer cars.
Iv seen new cars have zero lag what so ever with the same unit I'm using
