Re: My British Racing Green '99 NB
Progress so far. AFR gauge installed in left-centre eyeball vent, sits nicely and won't move without warning. I got halfway through wiring it in, tried to find out whether it would be better to run the lead down through the shifter boot to the wideband, or find a way through the firewall and run it that way. On inspection, I realised that the bung on my Racing Beat headers points the sensor downward ab out 45 degrees, which means condensation in the pipes will settle on the sensor. Instructions say this is bad, so I've pulled the headers out and will get a new bung welded in closer to the cat. While I'm getting that done, I'll do the rest properly and get a pipe made up with a bung for a GM IAT sensor to replace the MAF. I hadn't realised how insanely restrictive it was, just looking at the honeycomb in it, it's definitely worth ditching.

Re: My British Racing Green '99 NB
Latest developments. Wideband is in and working, got a MAF delete pipe made up with a bung for the GM IAT sensor, but have left the MAF fitted for now so I can swap the stock ecu back in and drive around to Gslender's place if need be. The Megasquirt had us both confused for a few hours on Sunday, no matter what he tried, it just would not keep running once it fired up. No fuel on the spark plugs, so not flooded. Eventually he had the bright idea of trying to make the fuel pump run using the test modes in the software, no whining sound... Turns out the European cars, and by extension the Australian cars, have an immobiliser where the US-delivered 99-00 NB did not. As such, the MSPNP was delivered with jumper J1 inside the case set to send no signal upon request by the fuel pump, and it would not allow the pump to run. Just switching the jumper from US to European w/immobiliser fixed it right up. So now, the car runs while cold, then bombs out when it warms up. Will add more fuel to the table tomorrow, so it doesn't stall when warmup enrichment reduces to 0.
For the sake of anybody else who comes across the problem and finds as little information as I did:
99-00 nb miata, MSPNP starts but won't idle. Fuel pump won't run even in test mode. US cars don't have an immobiliser in these year model cars, while European, Australian, UK etc cars do. Swap J1 inside the case from USA to European, problem solved.

Fantastic post and information thank you, I have the mspnp and wideband under my bed for a xmas project will be interested to see the base map that gets you running as I have very similar set up

Re: My British Racing Green '99 NB
Latest updates. Tune is coming along, getting more stable and improving all the time.
It's got some problems though. Unrelated to the ecu, but it occasionally drops 2 cylinders. Sometimes while driving, once on startup. Determined that it's cylinders 2 and 3, which are both dríven off the same coil pack. Swapped another pack in, no change. This afternoon I was able to determine that there's an intermittent break in one of the wires that leads to that plug. Tonight I tried to prove exactly where in the wire the break was, and now I can't make it fault at all. So one of a two things have happened.
Either:
1) I managed to mash 2 strands together and now can't undo them, so it will work for a while until it inevitably fails at the worst possible time (Feb 16th, club day at QR, and an hours drive home)
or
2) I did something wrong when I 'proved' the fault this afternoon. Bumped the pin probes enough to break contact or something..
So to sum up, ffffuuuu. Do I assume the fault was legit and it's going to fail again, and replace the plug? Or do I leave it and pray that it holds up indefinitely? OR, do I track down a full fuel rail harness, yank the intake manifold and replace the whole loom, hopefully getting it done and not screwing anything up before the club day?

Intake + harness seems like a lot of cost and effort vs Toyota COPs.
Aren't the nba coil pack plugs known for being temperamental as they age?

Yeah they're a failure point. Proved the coils themselves aren't the problem though, just the harness.
Cops would be fine if I could get it done and set and be confident it's good by the 16th. I'm thinking I will take the chance and replace the connector as far down the harness as I can, cheaper than cops and not a lot of effort as long as I can get my hands on a pigtail.

Re: My British Racing Green '99 NB
Ended up proving that the fault was with the ecu, nothing else. Will need to get returned and repaired. In the mean time, I put the oem ecu back in and it runs perfectly.
Ran the club day at QR on Monday. Reasonably happy with the times I managed, first time at QR on semis. Knocked 4 tenths off my Clubman time to run a 67.0, and knocked 1.3 seconds off my sprint time for a 63.5. Didn't realise how badly I overdrove T2 and the dipper until the end of the last Clubman session, so there's another half second to be gained there yet. Had a lot of fun chasing Mike in the 86 on the Clubman circuit though.
Now my brakes are pretty well rooted, gonna need some new pads. Thinking A1RMs now. Only had a single small lockup at T6 on Monday, but there's not much meat left now and the edges are all pretty ragged with chunks missing.

Re: My British Racing Green '99 NB
Front brake pads were rooted after that track day. Got some QFM A1RMs, fronts are in and good but the rears were all cut pretty badly where the retaining clips should fit. Trying to file the excess pad material out to make them fit, otherwise will just take them back tomorrow and get another set.

Nice work with the car, good to see you getting out there and enjoying it.
Do your A1RMs squeal slightly when driving and braking?
I've read mixed reports, wasn't sure if they were meant to be totally silent but they do a great job braking.

Re: My British Racing Green '99 NB
No squeal on my A1RM front pads with slotted rotors. First stop when cold is a bit weak but perfect when a little temp in them.

Re: My British Racing Green '99 NB
I ended up filing the excess out and fitting the rears too, but haven't bedded any I fb the qfms in yet. Will do it this afternoon and see how they go. Haven't been able to find out definitively whether they're supposed to reuse the oem shims or go without, I left them off so will probably be a bit noisy. Should have put some antisqueal on too but was lazy, and will probably regret that soon.

Re: My British Racing Green '99 NB
Also, the old pads turned out worse than I expected. They definitely did not handle the heat all that well.. The rears were even worse, but that's fair because I almost set them on fire once when I did the piston adjustment screw up tight instead of loosely, and did one lap of the block.

Turns out I'm a fan of big black knob. Who knew?

Lowers the highest point of the shifter by almost an inch. Feels more positive grabbing a gear. Good stuff.

But seriously, yeah I'm going to get one and stick it on somewhere.
