About twenty years ago I bought Recaro seats for a Mk1 RX-7 as they made a "generous" seat which fitted in the confined space of the RX.
Does anyone do a CAMS approved seat which would suit a fat bloke, but fit in an NA. Cost is a consideration.........

Sparco Sprint will expand somewhat if encouraged to do so by a bottle jack between some timber and padding. You may want to know they seem to weigh about the same as the standard seat.
UK since return: Standard NC2 (horrid), C200K, ND2 BBR, NC2 BBR200 (loved it), NC BBR300 (better than BARMY), V-Special, turbo NB8B (my 84th car)

Re: Race seat for fat a**es?
Not really cheap but a couple of manufacturers I know of are Racetech, Cobra and Velo
I previously had a Racetech 4009W which is the wide version, it only just fit into my NC with the wings at the top unmolested, potentially it would fit in an NA with the wings clipped. I got rid of it a while ago as it was a bit big for me and I wasn't using it.
Other manufacturers to look at are Cobra who make wide seats which they call GT width (I have a Suzuka Pro in the regular size currentlu and love it), Velo also make some really wide seats and also are happy to make modifications to seats if you speak to them (based in Australia).
Sorry I couldn't help you with a cheap suggestions, the way I see it though is its a one off investment.

Re: Race seat for fat a**es?
For a while I had an OBX seat in my car, sorry I can't remember the model as it had been re-trimmed (thus losing the tags)
It fit the MX5 without issue, I had space to spare around the hips, where the sprint V I found too tight.
They aren't too expensive brand new, and come up for sale every so often secondhand for very little.
I wouldn't recommend a Sprint-V, I found them to be an awful seat. ok around the hips, but way too small on the shoulders.
And pretty uncomfortable too,
I've also been in a Sparco Evo (or something, was a fibreglass shell one) and it had the same problems, but with no padding so it was like sitting on an upholstered floorboard.

Re: Race seat for fat a**es?
I did the same research only a few months back...
Sent an email to VELO, to which they gave me this info;
Their seat size chart is on their website.
For the record, I took to a Sparco V with a Jack and some timber and now it is the most comfortable race seat Ive ever used, and as I had the seat already, it was free.
Sparco's can be picked up for much cheaper than the rest and can be massaged to be perfect. Pretty good option IMO

You are very restricted in seat sizing in the MX5 as you would
know, we have supplied many GPT1 ( ADR & FIA approved ) seats for the MX5
over the years, the GPT 2 will also fit but will require the removal of trim
etc, we can widen the hip area of the GPT 1 another 15mm to give you some
more room. I have attached our seat size chart for you to compare widths
etc, if you can tell me your height & weight I can also advise you on sizing
etc. Please let me know if you require any further information.

I'm a fat fat fatty fat and I fit in a sparco roadster, not sure if they're CAMs approved.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Sparco EVO II
Race Seat in a Race Car ? or Race Seat in a Registered Track/Race Car
EVO II will fit you do need to coax it in with A bit of hammer time on the transmission tunnel.
I asked for an EVO III was told would need to hammer to much sheet metal for that one.
It's super comfy to me. That being said my same fat arse can be in much smaller seats for
sessions of under 30 mins with no real discomfort.
