I have towed car trailers, horse floats and caravan for 20 years with EB, ED, AU Falcon wagons, EL XR6 and currently BA MkII Futura sedan. All 6 cylinder petrol, autos.

Good transmission cooler and tow in Performance mode a must. Never had a failure and the fuel consumption figures above seem reasonable. Slow it down a bit and it improves.

Just done 13,000 km to Perth and back with caravan on BA with no worries. Averaged about 15l/100 km, but does better with car trailer as better aero.

I would recommend wagon or ute with leaf springs for better load bearing as sedan IRS wears out bushes.

My BF II has Ford factory gas. Not really happy with it compared to what I've heard about better quality systems fitted aftermarket to multi-point fuel injected engines. The Ford unit uses a single injector in the throttle body. It is pretty gutless, feels choked, often backfires on starting and sometimes rough idles. I think Ford scoured the world for the cheapest system they could find - this one comes from Belgium.

Fuel consumption is 14-16 l/100 highway unladen and 22-24 l/100 highway towing.

LPG Tanks need removal and full inspection (pressure testing?) at 10 years - mine failed at 7 and had to be replaced. Stepper motor assembly requires draining and filter changes regularly - not easy when half the fittings seize up.

Have a browse through the Falcons section on fordforums at http://www.fordforums.com.au/forumdispl ... 94d5d&f=30
