Air con

Postby pickers » Mon Feb 02, 2015 11:25 am

Morning,

I've been in Oz now for just over a year and I imported my supercharged eunos roadster with me.

All has been going fine until the air con compressor buggered up a week or so ago. I'm looking for a decent garage in Perth (preferable near Osborne Park, or Ocean Reef / Mullalloo) who will be able to sort this out. I tried out Autospark, but they 'couldn't find the part', which I take to mean they couldn't be bothered....and Mazda / MX5 specialists around?

cheers
Rob

Hi Rob,

Replacing the compressor is a fairly simple affair. 6 bolts, a belt and an electrical connection.
Compressors can be found on ebay;

You can also call mobile AC specialists to de-gas and re-gas the system. I had a mobile guy come and degas mine prior to pulling it all to bits - cost from memory was about 60-80 bucks.

Just dont breathe the gas, it's heavier than air, and also displaces air.
A lungful of it can cause you to basically drown in air.

So it's worth getting a proper place to remove the gas first (of course, if the compressor is properly stuffed, it's probably already leaked the gas out anyway)

Cheers - I've looked around on ebay...might have to be the way!

I was hoping to find something a little closer than the US though :)

Chances are that this would be the quickest way to source a new compressor, despite being in the US!

Don't quote me on this, but I wouldn't be shocked if the compressor is the same part as fitted to the Mazda 323 and Ford Laser (when they were using the B6 and BP engines)

Perhaps a trip to a local wrecking yard could come up with something?

Cheers - stopping off at CMM Autos later on today to see what they have to say, otherwise it is ebay!

Thanks
