Here is a link to roll bar padding, they have half cut padding which when fitted to the front part of the bar where your head is, should satisfy the legal requirements for padding but as its not over the top of the bar also won't hinder the top

I will post this elsewhere too but what I don't get is the flammability of the foam -rubber is flammable, is this treated foam?

Used cable ties here. Don't know if it's treated, however given it's being sold by Revolution Race Gear I'd expect it to be suitable for track purposes, but haven't confirmed this.

Able flex, boys and girls, it a foam product that comes in different sizes 100mm x 10mm x 6m, 150mm x 10mm x 25m (if I remember correctly) its got a 'sticky back on one side its used in construction. It may help

I'd be wary of using pipe lagging over proepr rollbar padding.
Rollbar padding is quite firm in order to absorb the impact from a decent speed.
Pipe lagging (all the stuff I've seen anyway) seems to be a lot softer, and won't protect you much in an accident.
Basically, if you can compress the foam easily with your hand, you'll also compress it even easier with your head at 60+kph.

+1 on this..
The FIA stuff is that stiff that it makes it difficult to fit into the car, and a pain to fit around corners. (I ended up having to cut into triangles to fit around the cage bends)
The upside of that is that it absorbs the forces more appropriately when a helmet slams into it..
The soft foam mentioned above, may be easy to fit but wouldnt be much better than the bare bar with respect to cushioning an impact..

But unfortunately not acceptable for use in CAMS racing events as it is not FIA approved.
It may be fine for sprints but that would be up to the scrutineers at that event.

Having hit my head on both I vote for the proper stuff. Can also save your helmet at relatively low speed impacts
