1.8 MX5 pinging under load

Postby blindsay » Mon Jan 19, 2015 9:06 am

I would appreciate any tips and suggestions on why my 1.8 MX5 1994 pings under heavy load please. In my ignorance I thought the timing may be manually adjustable as of old, but apparently not. My last 1.8 ran perfectly on standard 91 ROZ fuel and NEVER pinged even when thrashed, and I don't want to be forced to use 95 or 98 octane fuel - mainly since it is seldom available beyond major cities in Tasmania.

Have you tried 98?
At least then you'd know whether the issue is low quality juice.

Timing is manually adjustable, via the angle sensor at the back of the head (NA). Not sure about NB.
