Help!!! I broke down

Postby squibbward » Sat Jan 17, 2015 8:19 am

So driving today and get about 2 hours down the highway at about 115km/h and out of no where the engine cuts out no sputtering no battery drain just cruising then nothing no acceleration nothing. So i pull over shut the car completely off thinking it overheated it cools down go to start it and nothing. The lights come on the starter whirrs away but the engine does not crank.

My thoughts us possibly the altenator locked up and went out

Or the timing belt jumped timing

Or the flywheel is trashed out

I will say timing belt is only 5000ks old so still new and all the other belts are intact and tight. So lmk what it might be so i can test it when i get to the garage

Could possibly be EGI relay? Sounds like similar symptoms. If it is, you could short two of pins to get the ignition circuit going and car started. Do a quick search for EGI relay and you will find a thread that mentions it. Hope that helps

So may be a bigger problem then the relay i bump the starter and the crank pulley turns but the timing belt and cam gears do not turn at all

So did it jump timing in bend the valves if so that is gonna suck or is something else broke inside maybe a broken cam shaft?

are you 100% sure the timing belt is still there?.
everything you mention is exactly what happens if the timeing belt is off or slipped teeth from a buggered tensioner.
you said when you tried to re-start ,the engine didnt crank?..maybe you mean it turns over but doesn't fire??
just take it who ever did your belt and get them to look at...no harm done to your motor ,its non-interference.

The cause of the problem is your steering wheel - it's on the wrong side.

Why do you talk in kilometers and then post a picture from America?

Your starter motor is not connected to your motor or is otherwise broken. Dunno why that would have stopped your motor running though. EFI relay failure will not stop the motor cranking but will stop if firing.

Yeah its hooked back up now i undid the"wrong" bolt to loosen it but it made it move more then the adjustment bolt for it so i wasn't too concerned but i took her out for a drive tonight and she is running great even better then before and the rpms are less too what used to be 4000 is now 3800 so that's good
