Even in a hypothetical world where I had low 40s to drop on one* just sitting in the bank, or I wanted to take a loan that big, no, I wouldn't be interested.

And even looking ahead 7-8 years when, conceivably, they'd be sub-20 toys to buy for fun like the NC has started to become, I still don't think I'd want one.

I'm just not into the Z4 look they've been handed. It's a struggle to see the MX-5 "look" in the ND; the previous three were far more alike.

(*Assuming the price is still heading for sub 40 plus on-roads, as keeps being rumoured.)

Wife wants a NC but she would be mad not to get a red ND with the lot with warranty and NO Ks on the clock.
PPL are still asking silly $$$ for NCs

Some are, for sure. Some are 3, 4 even 5k past the maximum Redbook suggestion for their year, and often with no redeeming features, like low KMs.

However, being in the market for myself at present, I do think there are still some good cars listed between 16-17k with 50,000-90,000 on the clock.

You just have to sift through the chaff. Sometimes you see two fairly identical cars... one with 60,000 one with 120,000... and the 120,000 one might want 2 or 3k more (!)

Yep, it seems people on Carsales, for one example, don't look at their competition too often and, in the final wash-up, none seem to be selling fast.

With some negotiation, I think NCs around 15-16k with kms between, say, 50,000-70,000 are a pretty good buy. I'm just waiting for the right year/colour for mine.

EDIT: Oh, and in terms of year, I should be clear these are generally 05 and 06 NCs... sometimes an 07 creeps into the mix, too.

For me, the ND is desirable, but it comes down to price.
If the 2-litre model is $42k or less, I could be tempted.
Any more, and there is no way.

Not me YET, still have to finish my NB and not sure I'll ever part with her (too much effort, blood, sweat, tears, $$$ and love invested).

Love the shape of the new ND but NOT the suspected 1.5L engine and would definitely wait for the 2.0L since we all know that an MX5 needs MOAR POWA!

Not sure I'd ever buy a new car either unless I won the lottery - after living in the US and seeing what they pay for a new car I just can't bring myself to paying Aussie prices and knowing that I'd lose 1/3 of the value jut driving it off the lot.

I'm still wanting to see one in the flesh before I give final judgement on the looks.

IF I like the styling, given the car would technologically be up to date as far as features, I'd consider one... But it would be a little way down the track so I could get a Mk2 & because the wife is unlikely to let me have another toy without getting rid of the SE :P

Not surprising given almost no-one in Australia has actually seen one in the flesh yet, we have few technical specs available, don't know the options/colours available, pricing is yet to be disclosed, delivery dates to be announced......... :?

True, tho look at the numbers of people who put down money for the Toyota86 and Subaru BRZ sight unseen.

Not for me because too far down the track with the existing car. If I get a second car it would be a luxobarge for a DD plus towing the SE, not another MX5.
UK since return: Standard NC2 (horrid), C200K, ND2 BBR, NC2 BBR200 (loved it), NC BBR300 (better than BARMY), V-Special, turbo NB8B (my 84th car)

Always a good idea to wait for the 2nd edition too that SHOULD fix any of the niggling issues only discovered by DD the original edition - sometimes these niggling issues can make-or-break the driving experience (eg. getting the Toyota 86 from 1st to 2nd gear when cold proved to be dangerous at times for a friend and he sold the car after a year because of this and Toyota failing to fix the issue despite 5 "attempts" - al they did was change the transmission fluid to something else).

In the case of the NBs, upgrading the seats from the NB8A was a big improvement to the NB8B/C.

I dont think so - still have not got my NA to the level I want.
I think I would spend my $40k on a 2nd hand 335i and keep the NA.
