ROTA RB Wheel FITMENT - 3 offsets, 1 question!

Postby madkeen » Wed Jan 14, 2015 7:09 pm

Hi everyone.
I've settled on getting a set of ROTA RB 15x7's for my soon to arrive 1996 LE Miata, but unfortunately the colours available here in Australia seem to also be limited. I'm not sold on Hyper black, Bronze or matt black.
http://www.rotawheels.com.au/

I looked up US suppliers and was happy to find my preferred Silver colour is available....albeit in a range of 3 offsets that have hurt my brain. Can someone please tell me which of these offsets would best fit my car;

15X7 ROTA RB 4X100 +25
15X7 ROTA RB 4X100 +30
15X7 ROTA RB 4X100 +40

Thanks!

(P.S I'm not sure if it matters, but I'll likely be lowering my car at the same time with some King springs - about 30mm)

What size brakes on your car?
UK since return: Standard NC2 (horrid), C200K, ND2 BBR, NC2 BBR200 (loved it), NC BBR300 (better than BARMY), V-Special, turbo NB8B (my 84th car)

All of them will fit.

+40 will be closest to the standard wheels in relation to how they sit under the guards.

+30 will stick 10mm closer to the guard.
+25 15mm closer.

really depends on what look you want, flush to guards, or set inwards like stock.

Thanks everyone. Ross, is +40 a nice flush finish? I wonder if lowering the car would mean they need to sit in more. Like a +25?

Any pics?

Any idea how much these wheels weigh? Tossing up between RPF1s and Minilite style wheels. Like a bit of dish but don't want the stanced/poked/stretched/hellaflush look. Want the car to handle still and worry about the effect offset changes might have there...

You've got it backwards. +40 would sit in the most, the +25 would be the most flush with the guards. (out of the 3 options you listed)

The lower numerically the offset is, the further the rims sit outwards.

Thanks Rascal. I just realised I read that wrong. :0

Ross... Is your white NA lowered over those +40 offset wheels?

Dave... I'm running standard brakes.

Mates have ET35 on an NA and an NB, look great. ET38 15x7 is perfect but doesn't come in that fitment from Rota.

Thanks Peter. And everyone.

So do we think +40 on a 15x7 could scrape in the guards... especially if my NA8 gets lowered a bit?

I like the flush with the guard look.

All opinions welcome. :)
thanks

Geez the more I look online, the more fitment variations I find of the same RB wheel! You realise how restricted out stock in Australia is!

Does anyone know how I'd go fitting on the same ROTA wheels in a 15x8, 4x100 with +20 offset.
I'd love that extra inch of tyre width if it doesn't cause scraping problems.

Thoughts much appreciated.

I Doubt you would get 15x8 +20 offset to fit without some guard rolling and camber...

I'm looking at 15x8s with +25 offset for an 02 NB. They should JUST fit with 205/50/15 tyres.
Check out this link for combos that fit.

I don't know what your budget is or if you really want the RBs but check out these.

NA slightly lowered ET35 205/50x15 and gets an occasional tyre rub on guard on lock with a bit of down force on front suspension.Hope that gives you an idea. Was ok on 195,s

Thanks Slyfox. Hmm.. those Driftworks pics of the ROTA Grid may have swayed me away from RB's to ROTA Grids!
Just what I need... more indecision :p Interestingly that linked article quotes that both 15x7 and 16x7 should bolt straight onto an NA mx5 no probs. That said, it seems a bit contradictory whether with a 16x7 it would work with +20 or only with +40.

Any clarity on that form anyone in the know would be much appreciated. 16x7's are tempting (for someone like me who does no track driving!

Peter. Is that fitment you just mentioned above on a 15x7?

Thanks everyone. It's quite a mindgame all this stuff
