Hidden radio for original 89 model.

Postby original89 » Sat Jan 10, 2015 8:24 pm

Hello all;
I am seeking advice on installing a hidden radio into my mx5, also looking into a sub/amp and new door speakers, have new headrest speakers. Seeking advice for such a configuration, must be hidden from view, so head unit must be positioned elsewhere than standard dash position and sub/amp must be kidden eg behind spare wheel, suggestions?
Looking for good quality sound, but not looking to spend a fortune or have the top of the line.
From a clueless teenager.

what do you need to play?

ie:
CD
Radio
MP3
Mp3 player (ipod etc)

I have seen instals which only allow an ipod which are able to be made incredibly small (small enough to hide under the seat)

if you want a full head unit (so, CD, radio, MP3 etc etc) you'll probably be limited to hiding it in the glovebox, and operating it via a remote.

you used to be able to get ones with wired remotes, which would mean being able to hide the unti in the boot, but I'm pretty sure wired remotes aren't something they use anymore.

its your choice of course but a good radio of any description cost whatever it costs no matter how you mount it. Essentially an MX5 is a very compact car and the speakers etc were mounted were they were supposed to be mounted- if something is consigned to the boot as example then it impacts on storage space= not a great idea. . An original 89 should at the very least be possible to put back to standard because thats were the future demand will be i.e. cars that have not been botched up. If you cut up door trims then get another set or keep the originals. I don't know about anything under the seat- there is not much room and hardly very accessible.

Not worth the hassle as there is no space in the car for anything elaborate.

Greg.
P.S. Bluetooth is everywhere.
When you turn your car on, does it return the favour?
