The same car... check the number plate... listed at a dealer, and also privately... and with $690 between the two pricetags, to boot!

True, that. I mean, in this instance I am actually watching the market because I want to buy something, but I remember even back when I had my NA 14 years ago, I would still have a look even though I wasn't buying.

It's been interesting to see over those years, actually, the way certain models have come down and rebounded. The NA is a stunning example of that.

It's clear why there is a price difference. The dealer car is optioned up with 19 inch wheels :!:

A car I saw advertised months ago at a dealer is now advertised private with a lower asking price. Nothing dodgy there [WINKING FACE]. What GST? [WINKING FACE] what Form 4 used warranty? [WINKING FACE]

Yet I rang the number and the voicemail says you have reached xxx at xxx car dealership!

Yeah! And how awesome he got them to match the same dodgy plastidipped originals, too. That's skill!

When I was buying I looked at a silver nb8b at a mazda dealer.
Low kms so I thought I'd rush to check it out as I thought being at a mazda dealer that it would be immaculate.
Well.
Rips in the seats, cheap aftermarket dash stick on things, perished hoses under the bonnet and the A/C didn't work.
Which is all fine except mazda wanted almost $14K for it and none of that was mentioned in the ad.

The salesman just flat out asked me what I'd pay to take it off their hands. I said $7k and he actually mulled it over.

I bought privately that afternoon.

Its a toss up really especially here in the US. If you know what youre looking at and can do minor repairs in you're spare time private sellers are the way to go. I know alot of people that dont know a thing about cars and go to the dealer expecting a good deal and a reliable car with a warranty...side note if the car is truly reliable it wont need a warranty... back on the topic i have bought all my cars privately its much cheaper and haven't had any problems i didn't expect and nothing major besides tires. My friend who knows nothing about cars went to a small dealer bought an Oldsmobile alero very dependable car two days after it was in the shop for a week getting an inspection he drove it home and the transmission went out he then went to the Chevy dealership got a 2012 cruze nice car but he couldn't drive a manual and then the brakes went out on it needles to say the bank was fed up trying to sort out the money and made him get a different cheaper car so he got a 2009 sonic great on gas after a week of driving the transmission went out on this car.
Moral of the story just because its new and from a dealer with a warranty doesn't mean its reliable. So if you're buying a car know how to feel if something's wrong in the car i.e. vibrations and service records if not take a friend along who does know how to look for problems and all will be well
