Great to see you back Terry. Looks like it's time to rename Scooter. "Lazarus" seems appropriate.

Woohoo, if you need a co driver you know where I am.....
But I wouldn't going back to the place that fitted the pistons to the rods, they scratched and took all the metal off the edges....... doesn't look pretty at all

DUH!!!!
Not too long now ( well in the scheme of things)
So after too many crankshafts and a long conversation with Gary Stewart, I took the crank (1st one ) to the machine shop that did the 1600, and who GS use as well, journals machined and nitrated, then back to work to set everything up, measure etc etc. Stuff me if that idiot in the states was local he would be walking in a strange way, wrong bearings FFS, so got onto Bill@miataRoaster and 2 weeks later the correct parts are in my hand. Now I can finally dummy fit everything up and measure deck heights , clearances and file fit rings and make sure that everything I had machined fitted and was machined right. Measured deck height and found that the factory machined the deck height off compared to the crank center, so made measurements and machined block to suit.
Got the block back within 24 hours, (sooooooooooooooooooo different to the other shop) and cleaned and cleaned and cleaned and then cleaned some more, then made my mechanics check it and made them clean it, finally you couldn't get anything on white tee shirt cotton so I figured that was good enough to start assembly. I was only going to fit the crank and then call it a day but once I started I ended up assembling the whole bottom end (That was my Saturday morning stuffed). It was fitted to my engine stand so stuff it I picked it up (literally) and bought it home.
I then assembled everything else to the block ready to go in this weekend.
Unfortunately with this weird weather my hands don't want to work too well so stuff it I'll do all the other stuff I shoulda done before, and fit the short motor next weekend!!!
I've removed ALL the small hoses and pipework associated with them so now 1 less thing to worry about, as it was the pipe to the oil heater/cooler that blew costing me a motor, I got a reroute from Danny and am now making up the associated pipework and brackets for a cold side reroute. I had to drill out the spacer so I could fit the fan switch as I really don't know how to reprogram the ecu, and really, the switch is simple to modify. So with the heater/oil heater pipe removed a welsh plug was fitted, the std ecu coolant plug fitted to the head, coolant sensor fitted to the head and the spacer hole plugged, it all seems ready to be fitted. Just need to now bend up the 32mm pipe work and weld up to a long sturdy bracket on the manifold, then I need to weld in a fitting for the mechanical temp gauge and then paint or powdercoat it.
While I think of it, MX5 parts in the UK had the gear, key and bolt to me by Friday AM, not bad eh!!!! ( as I used my parts to fix up someone elses car )
So what have I been doing while waiting for parts and other sh*t to happen, well I cleaned Scooter of course, might be too shiny for a race/track day car
Cylinder head will be finished this week and then I'll need to talk to Clive Cams as to what they want to do cam wise.
So what am I hoping for power wise, something that will do 60sec runs at LS and I'll be happy.
Hoping to maybe do a track tryout in April if all goes well.

Re: tbro's 2nd NA, Scooter's resto
So, spose I better get my finger out, so unloaded engine crane cleared sh*t from around the car and fitted the short motor.
Took me all of 1.5 hours to fit it and finish it off, now to wait for head and cams to be finished and then
Started to make up a reroute coolant pipe, long bracket mounted to the 2 holes vacant from the strut removal, gussetted and sensor post welded in. On Monday we'll silver solder the rest of the fittings in and then off to the powder coaters, the big sensor mount is for mechanical coolant gauge, the smaller one for low water sensor and a 3rd will be fitted for a coolant pressure sensor ( a vw 1200cc air cooled oil pressure switch, goes off @3psi so perfect for this application and cheap). I've mocked up a dummy motor so I can try different stuff and try it on the bench, much easier than on the car.
I don't know why someone doesn't actually make something like this available, it would certainly make doing the reroute easier. This motor will be a bit different to the norm as there will be NO little pipes or hoses to let go, thats why the reroute is slightly different, no fittings just welsh plugs or tapped and plugged. See the last post for what I'm gabbering about.
And for those that wanna know why the manifold has two mount holes on top of each other, that manifold will fit NA8 or NB8a motor.
Specs on this motor, stock as all f^&k sorta.

With non standard mazda manifold. And very balanced internal.
Must be the same "stock" club that tim k is a member off.

Stuff the Kero, that sh*t is dearer than petrol, static compression ratio "you" can work out
11.5 to 1 x 85mm pistons vol cc 10
zero deck height
47mm cc heads
85 x 1 mm HG.
I think it comes to 12.3 or there abouts, but with the cams etc that will knock it on its arse.
Talking of cams, got this modified today to suit the Mazda motor, my old one has grown legs so now I will take Lukes advise and photograph the
borrower with said tools to make sure it comes back ( and $100 dep).
Its for setting up your cams in the proper place to achieve the best outcome, amoung other things.Use dial indicator and a lot of patience but worth it.
You can do it without it but why leave power on the table????
So still waiting for aussiepost to bring me back my cams so I can get back to finishing off this here motor.
Oil cooler mounted, hoses run and secured, sandwich plate with thermostat fitted. Ain't a lot of room left on the right hand side of the motor with cooler plumbing, reroute plumbing plus all the other bullshit there. Kinda makes the left side really bare.
So not a lot to really do once I've measured up and ordered shims, just put it all back together and go out and gently flog the ƒü¢k out of it.

LOL - I DREAM of having that much room available in the MSM/SE engine bay! (even with it's much smaller charcoal cannister removed).
Don't worry about dying, worry about not living!

Ginetta sports, ummmm
Mosler sports, ummmm
Starting to sound like Lou....
Nah, don't think to many are now, last meet only a total of 6 MX5's in 2B and 2F bothered.
So what happened to you and Slender running this year?????
And are you going Tuesday night to find out what is happening to Prodsports in QLD atm.
It will be interesting to see if they will allow MX5cup to run with PSCRAQ, probably not, can't go
contaminating the classes any more than they are now.
Hopefully the car will be up and running by the next track day, then I can decide if I'm doing the Nationals.
