Does the Piper Cross filter kit and back plate come with the kit or needs to be bought separately?

The Juberide mesh filter will do nothing to prevent fine particles entering the engine. These fine particles are the cause of bores and valve damage. Filtration is just as important at the track as it is on the street. All it takes is for the front running car to drop a wheel for you to ingest a large amount of debris.

The solution needs to be something that incorporates the trumpet, which without we may as well not run ITB's, but also provides suitable filtration. As these builds require aftermarket ECU's, changing setup does affect the tune, so again having the best of both worlds as 1 setup is the way to go.

The Piper cross filter kit is a seperate item.

These are really good discussion points for the new ITB thread.

That depends on who you order from. Sunbaker looks to be dealing with Rev9 - in which case the pipercross filter kit is included as an option when placing the order.
As I've since found out - you're probably better off NOT ticking that option, and instead buying the pipercross filter itself directly from Jenvey or someone else, and making a better backing plate yourself or getting MX-5 Plus to possibly make it. But its looking to be a sub-optimal filtration solution anyway...

Your also better off buying the Jenvy kit direct from Jenvy or from the Australian distributor competition systems last I checked the dollar.

The slow progress continues... Had 4 wisdom teeth pulled last week so have been slowed with the huuuuuuurting and whatnot... Still managed to bolt up mr phams frame rails (http://mx5cartalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=62457&start=105), progressed slowly on the re-wiring and cleaned up the interior. Originally, I'd intended to replace all the carpets in order to get rid of 20-odd years worth of beach volleyball sand (there was a LOT of that), dirt, grease, oil, farts and petrol fumes, but frankly the shipping on new molded carpet alone is around 3-600 bucks depending on where it comes from and really - the carpet itself is generally in pretty good shape anyway, albeit dirty and smelly.

SO - what we did was scrubbed the crap out of it with some "Fabra Cadabra" (yes, that's what it's called - get it from Supercheap) and a coarse brush, and then pressure washed it all and set it out in the sun to properly dry. And honestly - its come up absolutely magic. Aside from the right-heel spot I've worn through in the footwell, it looks absolutely brand new and is devoid of the greasey "MX5 smell".

Image

Going this route though, its worth ripping off all the old "underfelt" since it won't survive the water treatment and (in my case) replacing it. I ordered an underfelt kit from MX5 Parts in the UK (while somewhat high on Codeine and laid up in bed...), and it arrived the following week. This new 'felt' actually resembles something of a stiff doormat and is about 10mm thick. Honestly I was expecting it to be a bit thicker and softer. Quite a bit harder than the original wooly, soft stuff that was in there. Having said that though - it does the job nicely and is cut pretty much spot on, once you figure out what goes where.

I again used spray contact adhesive to stick it all down, and its come up a treat;

And to hide the heel wear - I've chucked in some brand new 'factory' mats - which the car has never had;

Now we move on to finishing up the engine bay wiring... and soon after that... with any luck... we'll start it up I guess!

Sunbaker wrote:Going back to your photo of the Jenvey linkage kit - cls1. How did you linked the two ball joints (Ref 8 on diagram) together? From the diagram, it does look like a part is provided with the kit. Also what injectors are you running, they don't look like stock from the pics.

You're right - the injectors are definitely not standard - they're uprated Bosch 225cc/min injectors... so I'll be using a bit of fuel at WOT if I'm lucky enough to get it running. You can also use these plus the standard injectors and do multi-stage injection if you're feeling tricky... but I ain't!

With the linkage kit - I'm not sure exactly what diagram you're referring to. Maybe the PDF here;

http://www.jenvey.co.uk/home/accessories/linkage/jenvey-dynamics/linkage-kit-single-cls1/assembly-instructions

If that's the case - you've a keen eye for detail. Its not marked up as an individual part in the diagram and frankly that's just a flaw in the diagram. You'll get it in the kit. Its just a threaded rod and a couple of nuts. They'd have to be trollin' not to give those three bits to you when you get everything else! :lol:

Oh wow - so you have the kit and that bit was missing?? What a pain.

Sunbaker wrote:Also had a look at the supplied TPS today. Looks like it will not plug directly into the oem harness? Is there an adapter available or we'll be spicing.

I used a DT series Deutsch connector - just cut the plugs off the harness and the TPS respectively, and re-wired it.

Image

Deutsch connectors are the absolute bomb. Super easy to wire up and pretty well bullet-proof unless you really, REALLY balls it up. They're worth their weight in gold, though depending on where you get them you might actually be charged as if they're made of solid gold. I got a kit off ebay virtually identical to this;

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DEUTSCH-249-PCS-CONNECTOR-KIT-DT-SERIES-INCLUDES-CRIMPING-TOOL-/221392089425?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item338bff3151

The same kit from Ashdown Ingram was a bit over $700 (but they could give it to me 'wholesale' for $500... pfft).

Now that the wiring in the engine bay and behind the dash is more or less complete, I'll try and get some daylight photos of what I've done and share... Generally I've aimed to hide as much of the wiring in the engine bay as possible without going too silly cutting and re-crimping, so most of it is either hidden up under the front guards, under the headlights or under the brake booster.

An alternative are Weather pack connectors http://www.delphi.com/manufacturers/cv/connection-systems/weather-pack-connectors

It is easy to tell who wired what on my car Automotive plus uses deutsch and I use weather pack.

You can spend a lot of money on connectors. I'd be surprised how much difference exists but these from Jaycar are easy to get, inexpensive and don't require special tools.

Ive used that crap from jaycar.....they are as compareable to deutsch connectors as melamine laced baby foruma from china is to a mothers breast milk and no cheaper apart from not needing a a specialised crimiper.

I cut off the ones i used and swapped to deutsch DTM and still have un used one that i would prefer to thrown in the bin rathern then inflict pain on anyone.
