What Diff do I have???

Postby MXMatt » Sun Dec 21, 2014 6:30 pm

Hi All, just checking before I get all excited replacing my current diff in the MX,

I thought it had a standard 1.6 open diff, BUT climbing under the car I found it has..........

* A finned cover (I think all 1.6 have smooth cover??)
* 4 symmetrical "ears" on each side in addition to the bolts for shafts (1.6 had different ears left to right?)
* no front pinion damper (only on 1.8 limited slip versions)

From the above could I conclude it has a 1.8 open diff in it already????
and if that is the case is it easy to upgrade to a Torsen diff??

The smooth vs. finned thing is a red herring.
Only applicable to the first couple of hundred mx's ever made.

PMSL funny you mention that site - that is where I got the smooth diff cover info from ! which seems to be incorrect hehe

An "EX" is a has been and a "Spurt" is a drip under pressure - I will probably never be an expert!
