I understand this to be Perth's only other Malibu Gold.

Far out, looks like it's sold already - anyone know what it was advertised for?

Re: MALIBU GOLD REGISTER
Greetings, fellow Malibu fans and owners.
If you're sitting comfortably, then I'll begin.
I saw the WA Gumtree ad, on Day One, and thought I'd finally found my Malibu Gold.
I was the first to contact the owner, but I wasn't cashed-up at the time, and I'm temporarily down on the south coast, so couldn't even drop by for a look and drool.
I thought about it, a lot, for the next few weeks, then received a text that, after a failed sale to someone in Victoria, who had just lost his job, she had dropped the price by 25%, and was I still interested ? Was I ever !!!
I thought that this must be a sign, so after speaking to the owner again, and juggling finances, I was just about to purchase bus tickets, when she contacted me.
She said that her father had scraped the drivers side, that morning, with his new Jag. I thought lots of colourful language about Jag drivers.
I booked my tickets anyway, then thought about the possible extent of damage, and asked her to send me some photos, before I made the trip, the following day.
She sent photos that night, with the news that the repair quote would be over $2,000. Ever seen a grown man cry ?
I've always had the improbable high hopes of finding an original paint Malibu, and she'd already mentioned that the car had been in a front-end collision, which had put me off a little.
This news of further damage made me think hard about buying it, so I've reluctantly said that I wouldn't be coming to look at it, and I've just cancelled my bus trip.
In the words of those classic Toyota TV ads - BUGGER !
The search continues.
Merry Christmas to you all.
Nick

Re: MALIBU GOLD REGISTER
Wow....life sucks.
Did you see the Malibu that was up for auction in ACT this week? Looked to be original, although the soft top was slashed....
....might have been a fixer upper?
Regards,
Ray

Re: MALIBU GOLD REGISTER
Hi there, just saw this thread for the first time. Like most here, saw the car online, couldn't afford it. But had to bracing, it! 12 mths later I'm loving it as much as thr first. This is Rons old car (novice1).
It came with a few nice mods, bd rollbar and intake, front swaybar, exhaust, konis/kings and a set of rpf1, stubby antenna, taillights, chrome filler cap, tsi's and a decent stereo.
Today its slightly more modified with a turbo, 4.3 torsen, re-route, cams, lightened flywheel and hd clutch, nb8b brakes, cusco bracing, different wheels, mazdaspeed seats in white, mazdaspeed short shifter and knob/handbrake handle. im sureTheyred be more I can't think of.
Paint is in excellent condition, aside from the front bar which has quite a few chips, but it's done 210k now so I'm not surprised.
Here's a few pics of it.

Interesting observation....the mx5 Malibu gold is the only colour I have seen on Redbook that has it's own price range!
NB SE, NA 1.8.

Re: MALIBU GOLD REGISTER
Possibly why I'm able to get a 12.5k value on mine through just car. Sad though, crashing and paying the small excess, buying back and parting would make thousands more than selling it.

Re: MALIBU GOLD REGISTER
Just finished repainting the Malibu. It's almost all back to stock. Colour looks a bit orange in the pics but it's good in real life
