wheel/tyre options for NB 2000 moder Mx5
Perhaps someone can help me I need three new tyres to put on standard mag rims 195/50R15. Is there an alternative? Meaning another make or model wheels that will fit for NB series 1. Might be better getting nice wheels for the new tyres and paying a bit more for 2nd hand jobbies. Just bought car recently. Thanks in advance..simie

That all depends on your budget...
What sort of budget are you working too?

Wheels are a fairly universal thing to fit.
Basically for an MX5 the main things you need to know are:
PCD (Stud pattern) is 4x100 (4 bolts, 100mm diameter)
Wheel diameter, standard is 15inch, you can fit much larger if you like, or smaller (although 14s are about the limit before you have issues with hitting brake parts)
Wheel width you can fit 8inch wide without any modifications, and wider if you're willing to cut/bend things to make room.
Offset depends on what width you choose, and what look you want.
Basically, choose a style you like, then make enquiries into sizing.
Also bear in mind that 15inch tyres tend to be pretty cheap, and have a good range.
Once you start going either side of 15 inches the choices or cost become more of an issue.

Hi Guys. Have a 2000 nb series one with stock 15in alloy wheels. I think they are 6.5 in wide. Can anyone tell me the max tyre width I can put on these size size rims? Also a tyre make? Im not a boy racer but do enjoy a spirited drive. Car is a motor cycle alternatve so mostly will be dríven on weekends.

Whatever happens, please don't fit only three new tyres.
UK since return: Standard NC2 (horrid), C200K, ND2 BBR, NC2 BBR200 (loved it), NC BBR300 (better than BARMY), V-Special, turbo NB8B (my 84th car)

Id say a 205 would be the widest to go. Get a 205/50/15 tyre.
Plenty of good options out there too. Kumho ku31, Bridgestone re002, Michilin pilot sport 3 just to name a few. Just got to look at your budget. Also, definitely get the 4 new tyres not just 3 like mentioned above. When you get the wheel alignment done get them to do a custom alignment with some camber (only small amount, wont effect tyre wear) and some toe.

Re: wheel/tyre options for NB 2000 moder Mx5
the 15inch wheels on the MX5 are 6inches wide, the 16inch wheels were 6.5 wide.
As for width, that depends on if you want physically what will fit, or legally.
For legally, tyre manufacturers provide a listing of the widths they say are safe to use tyres on, here's one for a Toyo Proxes4
http://toyotires.com.au/images/tyres/fa ... roxes4.pdf
the chart at the bottom gives the max a min rim widths.
as for physically fitting, I have seen a 205 squeezed onto a 5.5inch wide rim in the past, but I really wouldn't recommend it.
