RTDC Motorkhana Round #1 (31/1/15 - SMSP)
Hi All
RTDC has released their Motorkhana calendar for 2015!
As some of you may know, I’ve previously assisted in organising & running these events in the past so I know firsthand that they put on a great event… They are even running the Motorkhana portion of Nulon Nationals in 2015 which is also a testament to their professionalism & abilities.
Registrations are now open for all rounds, with Round #1 being on 31st January 2015 at the wet skid pad at Sydney Motorsport Park – Or Eastern Creek to those old school guys like me!
More info can be found at the below link:
Round #1 Registration - http://rtdc.com.au/event-registration/?action=evregister&event_id=20
If you’re really keen on Motorkhanas, they also have a special price for those who book themselves in for the full Championship! More details in the below link:
Championship Registration - http://rtdc.com.au/event-registration/?action=evregister&event_id=19
Come & keep me company as I’ll be running in all 4 rounds in my little SE
If you have any questions or queries about the event, feel free to e-mail events@rtdc.com.au or you can always PM me
Cheers
Matt

$90 is a lot for a khana?
How many tests? How many runs at each test?

Re: RTDC Motorkhana Round #1 (31/1/15 - SMSP)
Costs have unfortunately increased due to rising costs from SMSP. Prices for members are lower for obvious reasons.
You get 4 x courses in the morning which are set up as head to heads with 1 x custom full pan course in the afternoon. 2 x full courses if time permits.
You get 3 runs at each course & numbers are capped at 36... So a lot lower numbers competing on the day (Thus why costs are a little higher also) as well as getting a good amount of runs in.

Motorkhanas ARE practice.
If the pan is being used mid week it would be for a drive school or the like I'm pretty sure.
Im pretty sure nobody rides for free when it comes to the ARDC. They wouldn't allow you on without the appropriate permits etc.
Curious as to who these contenders you have seen are...
So lets go!

top contenders may have been the wrong words but the 4 cars using the pan the day I was there were very good and no way they were from a driving school.
Motorkhanas ARE practice fair enough but if you get hours of practice befor a advent I bet it helps ?

Re: RTDC Motorkhana Round #1 (31/1/15 - SMSP)
The skid pad is like anything else at a motor sport venue as in you have to hire it. Generally they are used for things like driver training, drifting & motorkhanas. Have seen it used a few times for events that appear to be training / practice of sorts, but all seem to involve professional drivers of some kind.
When it comes to motorkhanas, the only real advantage to "practice", would be if you're setting up your car or need to make fine adjustments. I know very few people who take motorkhanas that seriously & if they do, their cars are specifically set up for it & are not a "jack of all trades" car like most.
In my personal experience (Only been on a pan twice) after the first 2 runs, you've more or less worked out your car in regards to throwing it around. Plus, you'll always have a few seasoned drivers who will give you a few pointers... Learnt heaps about how to get the most out of my SE (On the pan) that way.
If you've never been out on a skid pan, I highly recommend you come along - Even if it's just for a gander & maybe a few passenger runs. Speaking with a heap of the competitors at Nulon Nationals, it was their first time out & absolutely loved it... This was coming from virtually all teams involved, which included FWD people as well as guys in thundering V8's.

Re: RTDC Motorkhana Round #1 (31/1/15 - SMSP)
As someone with a fair bit of experience, when I need practice, I enter more events.
Like with any motorsport, the more seat time you get the better you will perform. But there has to be a limit to how much you are prepared to spend in order to prepare for an event.
For example, spending a few grand hiring a circuit to prepare your million dollar v8supercar team is a worthwhile expense. Spending one to two grand to prepare for a hundred dollar motorkhana is not so sensible.
Personally I feel you should jump in and have a go, even if you feel under-prepared, and just feel it out. In the next few months the NSW MX5 club will be running driver training motorkhanas on the wet pan and Id be more than happy to sit next to you and coach you through some techniques, and hopefully get you up the pointy end of the RTDC series.

What type of licenses required for this event? Had AASA but it's expired and no CAMs license either.

Re: RTDC Motorkhana Round #1 (31/1/15 - SMSP)
Cams Level 2NS is the minimum, plus you will need to be part of a Cams affiliated club. Of course, MX5 club of NSW is the best, and will keep you posted for training days etc. But you can join RTDC and get the discount on each entry fee to their events.
Pretty sure the MX5 club days will be filled with members and probably wont have room for members of other clubs, So IMO join the MX5 club so you can get in on events hosted by both clubs!
When planning which licence to get think about what events you will want to do during that year, if you are thinking of doing supersprints during the year get the Level 2S.
