Man, I would say dump the Haltech and switch to something else, tell Haltech and point them to this thread!

I agree. Hence my other post asking for recommendations of Haltech tuners who also know about MX5s rather than possibly being very good with V8s.

Yup, I'm now sure the Haltech PS1000 itself is fine. Looking for a consensus on the best tuner for it in this post please: viewtopic.php?f=55&t=66373

Of course, Newcastle is only 11 hours drive away Dann. Maybe I should come for a loooong weekend?

That is not such a silly idea. It would only take a day for the tune.

Can't believe some people avoid Megasquirt for the lack of finding a tuner. Seems that theory doesn't hold up well even for the popular brands.
MX5 91 NA6 LE completely stock and loving it!

A lot of my customers don'tseem to think so.

Take it to the same place every week for months to get it right or drive down fly home and pick it up in a week once.

Does the PS1000 have some sort of software low pass filter or smoothing that can be applied to the throttle position sensor value?

If it does, Haltech and the tuner between then should have used it to sort the issues by now.

Dave, what was the resolution of your apparently sensitive TPS? In spite of my earlier comments in this thread, my throttle 'first crack' was very sensitive. When I talked to the tuner about it, he said the signal from the tps was behaving strangely, in that it was jumping straight to about 50% and then settling back towards 30%. He commented that he had already adjusted the resolution as far as he thought was sensible.

We discussed trial swapping some second hand sensors to see if there was an obvious difference, but I have not had an update as yet.

I think Dave found a heap of other issues causing the problems.

I swapped my 2003 70,000km TPS for a second hand one today, and the car is transformed.

True, and these are now sorted. However, on a recent trip to Deckspeed for some other work, Daniel Deckers discovered and sorted two faults with the tune which the original tuner had spent five months failing to admit were wrong even despite my doing heaps of research and gently suggesting to him that he was wrong not to adjust them. He kept saying he'd got it as right as it was ever going to be and I foolishly kept believing him.
This, and the oil leaks and other issues, are the reasons for the new signature below.
By the way, bearing in mind that I asked them to several times, I also believe Haltech should have stepped in way before now.

I run a Haltech. Have had a good result from Anthony at Ace performance and Dyno. He tunes and works on a heap of different cars including mx5s. His price for dialling in my cams and a great base tune then power tune was reasonable also a few little adjustments have been made since included in the original price. Pretty sure I have told you this before though. If your tuner has to start blaming things rather then come up with a solution he's not on your side. He might say that he will wave $1000 but how much have you spent???? Loose the joker money sucker and go to a different tuner
Sometimes I wonder why i have different taste to others??? Then I realise its because Im not a sheep
