Was thinking on this one this afternoon, as we have a similarly arranged roundabout near home, where if you're proceeding straight you need to do so from the left hand lane, with the right lane being right turn only.
This is actually a really good lesson in defensive driving. For someone sitting where the Kluger is, there are a couple of factors at play:
- given the flow of traffic, they may have been there for a while
- many of the cars turning left will fail to indicate, costing opportunities to pull out
- larger vehicles turning left will block vision of vehicles behind
So, for someone approaching as you did in the video, you are dealing with a vision-compromised driver who is probably starting to get frustrated. They're clearly in the wrong, but you need to be very aware that it is quite likely they will pull out. I'll take a precautionary brake and a beep over being in the right in an accident every time.
