Hi guys, very sad day yesterday.
The front wheel of my NA6 locked up in the rain and lost tracking and hit into the guard rail and then bump a telephone pole. Didn't think the damage was anything significant until i got out of the car. And was very disappointing to see my Watanabe broken into pieces and the front wheel assembly bent. So glad that i'm also as this is the first time i scratched a car after 5 years of driving.
Anyway i took a closer look today and ask my neighbour who's a mechanic to take a look today, he said the structural and mechanical damage is not significant and it would cost around $200 + some second hand parts control arms etc to fix it up. He said the front quarter panel and the bumper is gonna cost a bit as i probably need to get replacement and repaint it to DU Blue.
We also notice some oil Fluid leaking from the passenger side, this doesn't seem to be from the engine, some leads from the power steering etc? If someone can help me with this it would be great.
So i'm leading toward this options.
- Repair the car mechanically and just drive it and repair the cosmetics as i find parts.
* If i choose this option, will the car be good as before? And will it be dangerous by any chance?
- Sell the car the way it is? Just wondering what its worth with and without the 3 remaining Watanabe and Hardtop.
* 17xxxx Km, engine transmission etc perfect. interior and exterior fairly clean, actually one of the cleanest NA6 i seen.
all stock.
- Stripe the car for donor parts for MX5Cartalk forum member. How much money will i expect to get from the parts.
* Sorry i posted a post last night on parting the NA6 and i got bombarded with emails, sorry if i haven't reply to you as i'm not sure what im going to do yet.
Thanks for the help in advance.

With damage and hardtop id say your looking at 2-2.5k, might stretch to for the car as a whole.
As a reference a car locally was a na6 with exhaust, 1.8 LSD and brakes, swapped engine, nice SSR wheels some rough paint but no major damage and was advertised at 2.5k.
Your missing the upgrade bits but have the hardtop.

Man, that sucks. That is a tidy looking car, love the colour. If you can afford it, and you love the car, then by all means go with option 1.
Otherwise, best bet would be parting it out. Roof is $1000, sell the wheels separately, people are always looking for clean panels (like you will be if you go option 1), engine and transmission should go easily enough. It's more work, but it'll net you a greater return.
Selling the car whole as is, probably the easiest option, I think sailaholic's estimation is a little low, but basically you're not looking at much, I don't think you'd get more than $3.5k. But if you want to be done with it, it's a good option.
Please choose option 1

Nsw might be different to QLD, but I've been watching you low end of the market here pretty throughly
3-3.5 for a running na6 turbo. Had some issues but was made roadworthy reasonably easily.
3-3.5 for a very nice looking na6 with lots of parts on it and a reconditioned engine but a blown na6 diff and no rego.
3ish for a red na6 no roady but only for the want of paperwork I believe.
I've also been involved parting out two cars here. Gearbox - $150. Na6 engines no one wants so you'd be lucky to get $300. Rolling shell is about 200-300 with out damage but you'd probably get more stripping the panels.

Fair enough, I'll defer to sailaholic in values for cars and parts.
I still say go with option 1!

Umm, maybe a stupid question, but are you insured?????
If you are, make claim, everything gets fixed for your excess including a new wheel, panels replaced and repainted, chassis all squared up and ready to play again.
At worst car is written off and you are paid out the value of the policy, and you may have the option of keeping the car or buying it off the insurance company.
5 years insurance with no claim, most of the big guys will have you on protected maximum no claim bonus, so no affect to your premiums if that is in place.
Also, how much damage did you do the guard rail and pole??? If you had to be towed away and the infrastructure has been damaged you may get a bill for these as well, and they aren't cheap unfortunately.....
