DID YOU ESCAPE THE BRISBANE STORM?

Postby zero00 » Fri Nov 28, 2014 1:22 pm

How did you fare in the storm Thursday 27 November?

I was lucky to have left the city 3.50pm but watched the storm progress north at a fair speed!

In the CBD hail the size of oranges pelted down, my office block of 25 levels even had the sways I'm told so heaven knows what it would have been like in 'Infinity' which is 82 levels!

My NB was under cover in Caboolture and on arrival there I made the decision not to head home, BOM showed black/red in a direct line for my place. I waited around 90 mins and then when the radar showed light rain headed home

Unfortunately, on the 86/BRZ forum many opsted extenive damage to their cars, some I believe could well be written off they are that bad :(

Just some rain and wind at Ashgrove for about 30 minutes all up.

Other half was in the city and ringing me panicking about the storm, asking if I had moved the ute under cover. Got a suprised response whn I said no, and it's insured. I had to explain that to move the ute under cover one other car would have to be moved out into the storm, and it would have had to have been her car, she thought it best mine stay out for some reason.......

Some insane wind and rain at Kelvin Grove, some hail - but not nearly as bad as the hail in other places.

All over the uni there were cars with new dints and cracked windows, a few tables and chairs just up and flew from balconies in the apartment blocks.

Annerley got hit pretty hard, Woolloongabba too. Couple mates and two of my brothers lost all the windows in their houses, one lost a roof, not to mention now are owners of very-probably-soon-to-be-written-off cars.

Nasty one, that's for sure.
Because reasons.

I drove from Kelvin Grove to Annerley going home and it took 2 hours... I really should have taken the tunnel.

One side of our house has many chunks taken out of its veneer, and one small window was broken but the house was otherwise ok. Our Pug though... dinted in every panel and the windscreen has several hits, it held together though rather than cave in so the inside of the car is ok. Not sure what will be the best path to take... a few years ago in Perth many cars were damaged in a similar incident and they decreed it all cosmetic damage only...
Kind of wish I'd taken the Pug to work rather than the MX5, I think I could repair the 5 myself much cheaper.

Here's a few pics from the front door of my office on turbot st.

EDIT: Here's the video: https://vimeo.com/113062880

I would say where I was got hit the hardest. Extremely brutal hail. Many smashed windows. Turbot street was a river by the time it passed. Hail was so heavy it was forcing the sensor of our automatic doors and coming into the foyer of the office. Defs worst storm I personally have seen.

I should add my 5 was parked undercover thankfully, though it took me 1.5hrs to travel 7kms home to Morningside... city was completely gridlocked in every which way.

We're in Honolulu at the moment, but haven't heard from the pet sitter or the neighbour so we're looking good on the house front. The Cfer's sitting in the valet section of the international terminal parking at Brisbane so that'll be fine, and I've no doubt the Jaffa, sitting at Automotive Plus, with his new ticker, waiting to be picked up on Monday , will be fine.
