I reckon it's just perspective...loooong manifold that pushes the turbo out, and looks really big cos it's near the camera.

Adding a support strut from the collector to the manifold flange?

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
probably nothing wrong if cas on the back, but aren't the steel pins in the cam pulley the triggers for engines with front cas, thats just what I assumed anyway.(just had another look at picture, realised cutaway tappet cover must mean no front cas,D'oh.its been a long day)

Probably Indestructium with the size of that turbo!

What is this engine going to be fitted to?
Looks a little too wide to fit in the engine bay of an MX5......

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
The car has had a bunch of changes.
If I havnt written all of this somewhere the engine was a late night Ebay purchase bought for <1000, this is literally a used super high comp IPRA engine that had throttle bodies on it, and we are going to absolutely jam it with boost.
it has:
CP pistons
Carillo rods
Knife edged and counterweight removed crank (super light crazy looking thing)
Maruha sump baffle
External oil pressure control
Extensive port work
Big valves
Double valve springs
Titanium retainers
Adjustable cam gears
Custom ground cams (mystery cams)
Its got 11.5: compression and I'm going to try and completely choke the turbo on it. IE: run ALLOFIT boost levels, on a dedicated E85 fuel system.
Its the first 11.5:1 turbo mx5 anywhere to my knowledge and its really just a "why the hell not" type of build.
We have upped the turbo size to a GT28RS, gone to a Turbosmart external gate, and it also have pretty extensive alloy ducting in the front end, Ill get photos of that up when its done.
I hope we can completely max the turbo at this compression and if we can we should make a healthy 400rwhp, and an ENORMOUS amount of torque with excellent driveability.

ABSOLUTE BARGAIN - the Carillo rods alone are worth $1,000!
You've basically got everything else for free given that those rods are practically indestructable.

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
Yeah, so we figured.. ƒü¢k it lets do it.
No one else has had the balls, and even the local tuners ummed and ahh'd so we dropped it from 12.5 to 11.5:1 and we are ready to drop it into the car.
The inlet manifold will be a restriction we are sure, so eventually it will get a hand made one.
