An email sent yesterday to the Canberra chapter members; thought it relevant to repost here. Russell was a long term contributor to the MX5 community and I personally owe a lot to his advice and support.

I recently received some very distressing news regarding one of our long-standing members, Russell Battisson. Peter Battisson has asked that the following information be provided to all club members:

“Peter Battisson has this morning advised that Russell Battisson has suffered catastrophic brain damage as a result of a massive asthma attack at his home in Harden and Peter has requested that ACT MX5 Chapter Members be informed.

Russell is presently alive but on intensive life support in hospital. His prognosis is not good and his father Dave and the family are currently faced with very difficult decisions.

ACT members will appreciate that the extended Battisson family are currently extremely distressed at this most unfortunate crisis.”

This was then followed up with a second email, early last evening.

Further to my earlier email today, I’m deeply saddened to advise that Russell passed away late this morning.

This is a huge tragedy for his family and his many friends in the Canberra Chapter.

Subject to the agreement of his family, I will advise details of Russell’s funeral when known.

Terrible, terrible news.

Russell was a great bloke, having done some work on my car and led us on a tour through the snowies. He also helped my mate out when we were stuck in Jindabyne on a long weekend.
