So ok thats for that info, should of had a closer look instead of a quick gander.
This is what I suppose you call "the fuel rail mod", I thought you drilled the end, left the reg in and silver soldered the fitting to the end rail.

Image
Image

So I've ordered a Sard rising rate fpr. That should sort that out. Might even fit a cooler along the rail on the return line as the fuel get pretty bloody hot, dunno, gotta think of that for a while

Modded the sump a bit,

Image
even ready for the day I fit one of those things still sitting on the floor!!!!!
Image

OH well out to play some more
BTW, Si am I an aunty or uncle????

Major parts have now arrived and after filing ring have assembled rings to pistons.
Bottom end now sortof together
Image
Fancy bolts everywhere, Don't ya love the safety boots!!!!
Image
And pretty bent pipe type things, all silver too
Image
Image
One very well made extractor system.
And yes, that NB motor is for sale cheep cheep!!
Going to run oil catch can to feed back to motor on this motor, the plug is there so might as well use it!!
Have pulled sponsorship from a Mobil distributor so looks like I will be a Mobil 1 user
Cams I'm still thinking about and I'm waiting for some emails from the US, the price of cams here are too bloody dear and most won't do new blanks and when they do  & I'm not one for fitting spacers to hydraulic buckets to correct poor machining or design.
Might even run stockies to start with.
So I'll be wiring up oil temp and water temps up today to start with,
and then off to get some fuel rail fittings etc ready for the big install, hopefully next weekend, maybe !!!!!!!!

Thanks Mark,
Trying to set myself a standard   It's called being a silly old Fart

As I'm still waiting on bits and pieces I decided to fit and wire up the new guages, a water temp and an oil temp guage.
Only cheapies but will do the job, provides just that little bit of insurance (if you actually look at them)
Image
Image
Image
Drilled the cylinder head for the extra sender,
Image
Plus a blingy fpr, bit gory looking but if it does the job !!
Image
Now just need to make up a fuel manifold for the inlet, silversolder up the fuel rail and then I'm just that little bit closer
Image
Image
Hopefully the valves will be in this week so I can finish off the head.
I'll keep ya informed

Been a while hey???

So where to start??

Finished off the new 1800 and ended up with a nb head, Na manifold, cams from Auckland camshafts. Made up a new exhaust system to match up to the new extractors and then off to run him in. Still running little injectors 440ccs until the new race tune is done. We did a mild tune just to make sure it wasn't too lean and its making very good horsepower :) :) ,the torque this thing makes is incredible for a small 4 cylinder. I can let the motor drop down to 1500rpm in top gear and just accelerate away at will, very nice.

Even did a service yesterday and started using my new sponsors products. Kendall GT1 20w/50 oil, definitely helps quieten down those rattling lifters

Picked up the new timing system today from QR and enjoyed a good drive to further run-in the motor.

Don't even need to look at the tacho to know what revs I'm doing as at 3000rpm on the dot the exhaust and intake noise changes completely, really cool and not too annoying.

Just some piccys

Image
pretty hey!!!
Image
Image
Thought I'd make up a holder so I can read the lap timer. Cool hey!!

So now just about ready for the finale tune, still debating whether I'll run the NA head thats been ported etc or just run this head. The NB head puts me into 2B but as Lou says better to run 2B as it cheaper than trying to make horses in a legal 2F. Bring on the QR CUE 1 Hour!!

So here we are Corners,
Stuff I shoulda had before
proper switch gauges and murphy relay system,
Image
Image
and what has always pissed me off about the MX5 ,no decent clock all fixed now
Image
Basically you set what temp you want as your max, set oil pressure to the min you want and wire up through the murphy relay. If the temp or oil pressure goes beyond the set range the relay triggers off and cuts power to the ecu and stops the motor. No more watching gauges or looking at idiot lights its all done for you.

So block is at PLR for boring decking and web mods, crank work and then full balance, have lots of spare bits so we can pick and choose what will be used.
Head is back from Noonans and will be finished off by a mate, big valves springs and all the other crap, cams are being done in Melborne this time so will be interesting
to see how they go. All in all it's taking time and too much money but should be a good runabout if what I have planned come about.

Some ecus will do that internally and possibly far more accurately.

Yep, mine will BUT I'm using a temp sensor on the block which doesn't rely on coolant to sense trouble, also the mechanical temp guage is a back up so I
don't have to rely on electronics, when the motor blew it logged up to 230 degrees then the sensor failed due to lack of coolant (I think) and the oil temp sender melted,
so I think it got a wee bit hot. The murphy switch gauges have been around a long time and protect probably billions of $ in machines around the world, simple and reliable,
ask Danny he will know them well. The other consideration is that these days I don't have the ability to learn and retain the infomation,
so I need to rely on what I already know,or I need to rely on a mate coming up from Sydney to reprogram the ecu for me. So I stick with what I know.
Started this today, too bloody hot to work in the car so......
Image
nice and simple in the front, not so at the back
Image

Now I'm waiting on some parts to arrive so I can try and make up something to mount the murphy gauges up around the dash area, not sure yet exactly what but I ordered plenty of parts so won't matter how many I stuff up.

I'll try and keep this up to date as I'm gunna try a few different things with this build

Scooter has growed some......................

Postby tbro » Fri Nov 28, 2014 12:30 pm

ears?????????????????

From this

Image
To try out
Image

to this...........micky mouse ears................
Image

Its a bit darker now due to more paint being put on, used hammertone as I couldn't get the black right so why not try something different,
after all this is me......and it matches the centre panel.

If someone wants to try making their own, i've got a few pods  like 6 still as I wasn't sure how it would go, so ask (local only) and I pass some on.

So crank no 3 is at the shop, first two had cracks in no 4 bigend journal and no 5 main, so back to the start again, should be ready late next week (I hope)
Picked up pistons and rods after balancing, just waiting now for more bits to come home and then i can dummy up and work out clearances and strip down and do some more machining   then hopefully assemble for a final time.
Feed up to the back teeth with some so called suppliers, won't return calls or emails so now looking at different supplier in the states, not that they are much better (Hint, if they have fab in their name like Belfab had, steer clear)
Finished off dash and console and wired all up, what a PIA of a job in this weather!!!

Image
just need some vents to fit back in the centre.

When you know your balancing is done proper...............

Taking my time with this build and trying some different suppliers and machinist this time, some I won't go back to,too slow and others so far have been really good
to deal with, and I gotta give a 24 month unlimited K warranty on this motor so I had best do a better job and have no silly factory little hoses to burst!!!!.
So am I gunna race it again, ƒü¢k yeh!!!!!! Can't think of anything more fun than playing
