Advice In buying 2nd hand MX 5 has been appreciated
The NB series 1 came back from the mechanical inspection needing 3 new tyres, new set of front brake pads flushing of fluids ( brake, coolent) . The.rattle.from the front is infact in the back rhs disc brake dust pad is loose. Easy fix. Car has.no rust or damage. Interior no cracks on dash. Small tear in sqab drivers seat. Rego due Australia Day next which is a bit sad. All up tho $5000 is a good price is think.?Cheers to all for your interest and advice. Will start looking for some improvement parts on this site soon I guess. I now have the Mx5 bug. Zoom Zoom

Welcome to the obsession.

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Seems like a good buy if the paint is in good condition.
Highly recommend change all fluids, and get a set of quality tyres. No point in having a great handling car with shitty tyres on it.

This x1000.
Constantly amazes me how many people spend thousands on the best suspension and rims they can get, and then totally screw it up by putting yangtang tyres on it

Will do. Will post tomorrow. Paint work is dull but looking forward to giving the thing a polish.
Perhaps someone can help me I need three new tyres to put on standard mag rims 195/50R15. Is there an alternative? Meaning another make or model wheels that for NB series 1. Might be better getti g nice wheels for the new tyres.

Put 4 new tyres on it. It won't be legal with different make / model of tyres on one side vs the other (front to read can be different but side to side must be the same)
I'd recommend bridgestone RE002, but plenty of people will have other opinions

Hrmmm, just looked it up, now it's a recommendation (since 2003) but it used to be a legal requirement ( same as the speed rating stuff)
Either way, generally a good idea to have the same tyres.

Right, I understand it as a recommendation, too. Otherwise if you think about it, all those folk out there with full size spares in the boot (which are often a different brand to what's been put on the car over time), would be breaking the law every time they got a flat tyre and replaced it. But, of course, wherever possible, you should stick to four of the same tyre, absolutely.

It's true you don't have to have 4 tyres the same.
But don't even think about only replacing 3.

I beg to differ. My first NB8B was sideswiped by a truck in 2001, damaging one of the wheels and destroying the tyre. There were no replacement tyres available in Australia (very rare size at the time)
I was advised by the RTA at the time that it was illegal to replace the one tyre with a different make / model. After discussions with the insurance company I ended up making two claims. The first was to replace the tyre with a different one, but as that left the car in an unroadworthy state, there needed to be a second claim to replace the other 3 tyres.
They ended up airfreighting a tyre out as it was cheaper for them.
