Fuel Economy

Postby ED_MX5 » Tue Nov 18, 2014 7:47 pm

So I have noticed that I only get about 350 to 400km to a tank (read to 1/4 tank, God forbid running it to empty  )
Is this about right for these cars?
I mainly use it for fun runs. Mainly old pacific highway, a good run to palm beach. I do tend to keep revs at around 3-4k typically when through the hills, just to keep the power there. Not going overly quick on the roads. That's what my race car is for.
Is that consumption about right? I don't mind too much as it' just a toy car. But jus wanting to ensure all is running well.
I should mention, It has had a full sevice, so oil filter and oil/fuel filter/ at the moment I have a POD filter for t noise. But that will get slightly modified with a box around it after Christmas. Has new iridium plugs as well.

Cheers.
Ed

Impossible to tell by looking at the fuel gauge. This subject has been done to death.

Fill tank and reset odometer.
Drive >100km.
Re-fill tank.
Note km traveled and fuel litres added.
Do this at least twice.
Divide fuel litres added by .01 x km travelled = litres per 100 km. Should be about 7-8 for normal mix driving for your model. Less for highway and more for city.

350-400km out of 30-35 litres? sounds fine.

There are some great smart phone apps rather than the old fashioned manual calcs. Cheers NAS

In the 8000-ish Km I've owned the little car, I've averaged 11L per 100Km, using John's method above to record.

I feel like 11 is high for one of these - but she pretty much doesn't move except for mountain runs and track days, so all things considered, I think that's ok.

Averaged 16.5L per 100Km at the last club track day - filled up in the morning before, and on the way home.
Because reasons.

Smart phone apps are great for those who are moving with the times and have stopped using the abacus and slate......

My NB8B was pretty much 10L/100km everywhere except on the highway, then it got down to mid 8's on a good day.

But it's a fun second car for me, my diesel peugeot daily driver sits on mid 6L/100km around town and low 4L/100 on the freeway :D
