The IQ3 has an external warning light so I'm thinking of where to put it or do I put a relay in and run a siren and flashing light as well.

Whilst the IQ3 has built in warning lights it can also light an external one.

Plan is to modify the old surround to fit the new dash so it blends in. The ABS amount is about 3mm thick not to mention the surround is not flat so heaps of sanding/filing to make it fit neatly. I can do some DIY :D I'm actually excited about getting this working.

The dash wiring had to be put on hold whilst I attended my daughters wedding.

Keeping the dash circuit was the idea I always had for this. To get the idiot lights wired in I went to Jay Car...

Crimped the idiot light wires on to the Jay Car pins, inserted pins into bulb holder

A bit of plastic cable tie fitted in nicely, this makes sure the wires don't touch as well as makes them snug!

Heat shrink to hold it all in place

For the larger bulb holders I used the next size pins, the rest was the same.

Car is now at Automotive Plus getting a service as well as having a oil temp/pressure wired into the Haltech. Instead of fitting the 6 Speed electronic speedo sender I'm thinking of using this:

- Simply sandwiches between your gearbox sensor and its wiring connector
- The modern equivalent of the original speedo cable dríven sensor
- Supplied as a kit complete with full instructions and wiring plug


This will allow me more time to test the IQ3 as I can keep the mechanical speedo and the PS1000 can still have an electronic input!

Can anybody confirm the thread size on the 6 speed gearbox speed sensor, M22?

Well Jason (Automotive Plus) has confirmed that the Terratrip J probe fits and sends a signal to the PS1000! Dash install is getting closer!

Looking at if the PS1000 can output sensor voltages as I maybe able to get rid of the Innovate gauges. That has me excited!

You don't have to worry about voltages (assuming the sensors are calibrated for the Haltech).

Just plug the IQ3 into the Haltech (or is that vice versa? :lol: ), switch everything on, connect your laptop to the IQ3, go to the IQ3 setup page and use the pull-down menus to select which sensor to display where. It is all in the manual.

The process requires you to connect to the dash, download the config file to the laptop, make your changes and save them, then upload to the dash. If I have remembered it correctly. Oh, make sure you have the Haltech cofig file - I can send you one if you need it, because it won't work without it. The PS1000 is different to the E8/11, which only required a generic metric config file (ask me how I know :roll: ).

My bad, what I'm considering is the oil temp/pressure and water temp that are wired into the PS1000 is outputting them to a data logger (non VNet). I have a display only IQ3 so still need the data logging ability.

If this can be done I can remove the innovate guages as well as the associated sensors.

Good news is that I have already had the IQ3 hooked up to the PS1000 so no config file needed, thanks for the offer though.

How did you do your speed and fuel out of interest?

Yes. Though you still need sensors for the Haltech ... I assume you have readouts on the dash for what you need while on the move?

Ummm, is racecar. I just use GPS speed, good enough for me. I have set up the RPM/gear/final drive/tyre diameter to generate speed, but haven't actually used it. Fuel is a b******d. I have given up on getting digital outputs from the sender, or using tricks in the USM/dash, just too much variability in the readings. I now use a programmable gauge direct from the sender - there is still some variability, but again it is good enough for sprinting and short events. May be different for an enduro though.

Well I have got the IQ3 display dash install, idiot lights sort of work. I may have to check the dashboard fuse.

Anyway, programming the dash is not as simple as it sounds. Whilst the basic stuff worked the oil temp sensor proved to be a pain. The Haltech was reading the sensor, the dash software saw an oil temp sensor, but when it was selected nothing. After selecting about 4 different oil temp sensors in the dash software I finally found it!

Now the warning lights can be programmed. The software allows for on one warning light to be used for both over temp oil/water. Or low oil pressure when revs are over 1,500 RPM only.

Another thing that I need to fix is the RPM display, 1 screen has the RPM correct but I stuffed up the other screens. The gear indicator works really well.

It takes a while to get used to the bar type tacho and digital speed. I recall Charlie's reasons for the dash he used (stack) because he wanted a normal style tacho, at least at the moment I agree.

Job in the next few days is to get the fuel level sensor hooked up and sort out the idiot lights.

I'll post some decent photos soon.

Idiot lights all work now. 2 x Indicators, alternator, handbrake and lights. I still have to wire up the high beam. It just so happened that one of the holes I used for some cables is the high beam light socket. It appears that the orientation of the lights does matter.

Fuel gauge is proving to be a little more difficult as the Innovate only reads down to 0.00 and the sensor outputs millivolts. However I think I have it solved but have run out of home time.

IQ3 has had its screens changed since these shots, it is possible to use the bar graph for KMH for when you don't really need it, on the track and the RPM can be displayed digital in addition to the shift lights.

Whilst these do not photograph well they are very clear to look at

Nice neat implementation! I'm jealous and I love analogue gauges (the dash was one of the mx5 positives for me, particularly the Na).

Hit me up when your done with the asi-4 and any redundant sensors.

Madjak I wear polarised sunglasses (Spotters brand) and not had any issues. Yet to see what it is going to be like at night. However it is possible to increase/decrease the brightness by using the 2 buttons.

Sailaholic I will let you know when they are no longer needed. I still miss the analogue gauges but having everything just a button press away as well as the ability to customise warnings is a benefit.

Drove today with a pair of safety sunglasses on and the dash was hard to read, seems polarised are better.

Logged the fuel sender today on the way over to dropping the car off at Plus, and it looks like it will be a goer. There is not very good resolution, but it will give the fuel level. The data was collected over 53 mins (Purga to Aspley) and I guessed the fuel amount so the value maybe wrong but the fact that it works is the point of the test. Next time I'm home I will calibrate the tank and get it setup to be as accurate as possible.

If it's a polarizing issue to check just tilt your head to the side you'll be able to see a dimming effect at 90degrees. Some screens output polarized light either horizontally or vertically whilst your glasses are horizontally polarized to stop reflected light off flat surfaces.
