immobiliser or afternarket ecu issue?

Postby mrbrossnan » Tue Nov 04, 2014 6:27 pm

occasionally when trying to start my car, it failed to crank. i could hear the fuel pump priming but it didnt crank, nothing.
pulled the key out of the ignition, push it in again, heard fuel pump priming, crank it again and it worked. this has occured several times now. did some research any it might be a couple of factors like immobiliser, bad key, ecu, etc
any adaptronic or any aftermarket ecu owner ever experienced this? or it's nothing to worry about?

cheers

Fuel pump will prime everytime you switch the ignition for a fixed time, probably to ensure there is pressure in the line. When the engine is running the pump is enabled again.

yeah, in terms of fuel pump operation it's fine. but i wonder what would cause the engine unable to crank sometimes? it's like when u got flat battery, except all the lights etc were on.

If it isn't catching it could be anything. Check that it's getting the right signal to the ECU from the cam and crank sensor. Check injectors are firing, plugs, ECU settings etc

Failed battery can behave like that - fail to have sufficient charge to drive solenoid and crank etc

EGI relay (located in engine bay fuse & relay box & usually green in NB8B/C) can also cause this.

Hi.
By what do describe you have a fuel pump which is on the way out. The pump should immediately pressurise the fuel rail. To check turn the ignition on for 10 seconds turn it off and then attempt to start it. If it fires immediately you have a weak pump as it has taken ten seconds to prime the rail.
