Yeah...and you weren't with me when I drove it with the top on! Try getting in or out of that in the rain!

I reckon the Elise is pretty easy to get in and out off. It's got that broad ledge between the door and the seat. If you want to practice yoga try an MX5 with a fixed Sparco seat.

I should explain that the best way to get into the Lotus is to sit on the ledge and then swing in. This lady is kindly demonstrating the correct technique.

I disagree - I've had Sparcos and Brides, and the Elise is still harder to get in and out of...and with the top on, it's a whole other level of difficult.

You are right about sitting on the ledge and swinging in, but it's still harder than getting into an MX5.

My brother, over in Zurich (Hmmmmm, mountain passes...... ) had a NB8b, now he has an Elise (Toyota engine with SC).

While out here in February he had a quick drive of my NB SE and says he wished they sold them in Europe!

I may have posted this before :?

At the time I purchased the SE it was a toss up between a Elise and low k SE
the SE was 1/2 the price 8)
The SE had many comforts that were missing from the Elise which made the
Elise less desirable for weekend trips and an occasional 2 week a year drive
holiday Sydney/Great Ocean Road bla bla bla
My decision was confirmed after driving a Elise from Sydney to Canberra in a
day I was so pleased to give it back

Elise NO AC NO WEATHER PROTECTION NO BOOT SPACE POO RIDE OVER A LONG DISTANCE

Look at it this way - the Elise is a very focused car. If it is a car that you will use as a daily...not a good idea at all.

If it is one of your cars that you can afford to take out for that special occasion, then yes, it's a great car to have fun in.

I see the Elise as a "perfect occasion" car - weather has to be right, traffic conditions have to be right, route has to be right, etc etc.

my lotto fantasy is to build a sub 750kg elise/exige with a k24 twincharged for time attack.

i think with the right aero and a pro driver it could be made to go under 1:20 around smp.

but that would be pretty close to a million dollar race car.

and i don't have a million dollars.

so i have an mx5.

I own both. NB8B and an Elise 111R with the 140kw 2ZZ motor.

The MX5 is more comfortable and even with the Sparco seats is easier to get in and out of. It has much less NVH and the engine not being directly behind you makes the cockpit cooler and quieter.

The Elise is however the next level of car in every way. It's a very nice place to be once your in it and the driving position is great. The engineering in the Lotus is incredible, the car is a work of art.

I have owned an Elise along with a NA a NB and a NC :)

The Elise was great, for a while. The seats are rubbish, it's a pain in the bum to get in and out of if you are over 50 and insurance for them is a nightmare.

Get it on a mountain road and it was pure joy. The engineering is great but sadly a car made out of other peoples parts does not always bolt together well. I did a tour of the Lotus factory and watched them being built, amazing place and fantastic people work there.

TBH I had just as much fun with my NA at a fraction of the cost :) which is why I'm looking for another one :D
