Angus, what ever happened to going turbo? Didn't you want 280kw or something like that?

yeah I wanted to slap on a biggg turbo but i've owned a car with too much lag now... it was fun at the start but not as a street car. I have also dríven a couple Turbo mx5's now and i just don't like how they drive (SP & 2 different cars with a T28 on a na6) I would like to try going supercharger and if that gets boring it wouldn't cost too much to convert to turbo. and I think a supercharger would make the most out of a stock bp without ruining the response

Okay cool. I'm also pretty keen to experience the response from the SC. suspect it just wont have the top end pull of a turbo which I'm cool with, as I'm only after a bit more hp not heaps.

Would a more modern turbo help? Turbo technology has come a long way in the last few years.
I know they make GTX2863R's to fit into T28 housing if size is the problem (http://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchant.mv ... y_Code=GTX)
I run an ATP GTX3076R on my Evo and it spools very impressively given its size. Just an idea.

I wanted to go for a centrifugal supercharger which makes more boost the more you rev it so it should keep producing more boost for top end as well

A 3076 is perfect for a 2 litre though. I had an RB20 and was going to put on a 3076 with a .62 rear housing. it would have been a lag monster on the rb20 but would have put out about 300hp-350hp But yes you are right I should probably look into more modern turbo's before I rule them out completely

Re: Does anybody actually run E85?
haha yeah that would be waaay to big for an mx5, my evo makes 400hp ATW and its oversized for me! a GTX2863R should be good on an MX5 though.angusis2fast4u wrote:Dan wrote:angusis2fast4u wrote:speed wrote:Angus, what ever happened to going turbo? Didn't you want 280kw or something like that?

T28 is a GT2560R I think so you could see how the compressor maps line up.

How many RPM's does it take for the turbo to come online? I would say in an awd car the turbo should be kicking in between 3-4k which would be a good balance for handling and speed (since its awd it wouldn't go crazy hitting boost in corners)
I've also just read up that the supercharger kit I'm looking at is capable of producing 300hp or 400hp with a bigger housing, so my goal is achievable without ruining the torque curve. Sadly though a stock bp4 won't hold 300hp

Hope you mean built bottom end, cos otherwise it wont be 350hp for very long..

No I mean a stock BP4 won't hold 300 hp

When I say build the head I mean build it completely not just an upgraded head as such.. I know the stock bottom end would die very soon haha
