I think you might have been a little selective with your quote there. From the same article we also find:

The new engine range is vastly improved..

That engine is a lovely little thing on the highway...

Indeed, the engine prefers to rev hard – and it is a lovely, refined, quiet powerplant in doing so...


It's pretty easy to sharpen initial throttle response via software and we've seen this as a selectable setting in many cars for some time now.

It was pretty obvious from the specs that the 1.5 would need to be worked to extract speed from it. I don't have a problem with that (I find driving those types of cars quickly very rewarding) , hell the Jaffa's a very different animal above 4000 rpm and our NA6 friends would be very familiar with it.

The 1.5 is sounding more and more in the spirit of the original NA6. Which I think was kind of the point.

A 2.0L model would have larger cup holders.
