Racing Numbers for SUPERSPRINTS

Postby Dweezle » Wed Jun 02, 2010 7:03 pm

Hey All..
Just wondering what you all use for numbers on your cars?

Just about to do my first Supersprint and can prob make my number 660 out of Tape, but curious as to the different ways i can do it in teh future.

Can you buy Magnetic strips like at the NSW club days, but with some sort of Whiteboard kinda dealeo so that you can remove the number and change it for the next event??

How do all you PROS do it?

Thanks in advance.

Well I've done it a few ways. First time I just used Word and hung some A4 paper numbers on the side. Then I got in trouble for them being too small and tried stickers from Steves speed shop (Revolution racegear in Albion Park). Those were good but are about $2-3 a number so it gets expensive when you have to remove them after each event for a road car. Then I started making them out of race tape but that takes a good 5 minutes + to do well...and be readable.

Finally Mike actually offered to lend me the club numbers as long as I took good care of them which I've been using ever since. So I've had #26 baggsed for a good 3 years now.

The large white magnetic stickers are $100+ from memory so I never ended up buying them.

I bought enough of the white magnetic sheet to do both sides with a bit left over.
Correct size (according to CAMS) is 500 X 360 mm
I got 1 m x 630 mm for $25.00 from a Sign-o-rama shop

I then selected 4 numbers x 2 for a dollar each
Cut the magnetic sheet to size with a pair of tin snips (could use a box cutter or heavy duty scissors)
Stuck 3 numbers on each panel and another as an alternate number on another piece of magnetic sheet.
Used another piece for the blue triangle ($2 for the triangle)
All up $35.00

A little race tape on the leading edge so the sheet won't peel off at speed and I'm all set.

I took the same path as de bounce, except my magnetic stuff was a bit more expensive, I bought a metre of white vinyl magnetic sheet from Patch Magnets in Croydon ($50.50), and a pair of black 6 & 8 numbers from Revolution Racegear ($8.80). I trimmed two magnetic sheets to the CAMS-compliant size (500mm x 360mm) and stuck on the numbers. Worked great!

Mark, considering the short notice, you might be better off making up your numbers with black gaffer tape and a large sheet of white paper. You could tape them on your doors and easily remove them afterwards.

I printed each number on a sheet of A4 paper in portrait mode, laminated them, stuck them together with magic tape and stick them to the car with 100 mph tape (red). 8)

Bringing this old thread back to life as I am doing my first Sprint next Nov (23).
I have a laminater and am thinking of this option.
What tape have people used that is paint friendly?

I use electrical tape or masking tape as I usually have a roll or two in the tool box at all times.

As long as your car is clean (preferably polished) any tape should be fine. You can use a hairdryer to help remove it too. Saves trying to get little bits of sticky residue off later

Google streetfx race numbers.

12.99 for sticker pack for tow battery kill etc.
39.95 for magnetic number set. Roll of race tape to secure it and you are good to go, each time.
