Long story but key is inside the boot. How do I get the lid open without a key?

Always been one of my fears... But I guess "use the 2nd spare key" isn't an option?

Locksmith? As the key at least isn't broken in the lock they may be able to do something.
I seem to recall reading about drilling a hole through behind the number plate. There's a dent/dimple or something where you drill. Then use some wire to unlock. Not sure I'd want to go that route.

Re: How to open early NA6 boot-lid with key inside
someone very kind sent me a video of how & where to drill the hole.
patchy is not a garage queen. Or one of those cars in absolute pristine conditions.
I will have no problems drilling a hole as it is covered by the number plate. I may the seal it with a plastic grommet.
usually I open the bootlid & the key goes straight into my pocket. Ive never placed it into the boot. I was packing for a weekend of Mountain bike racing. Somehow in the rush perhaps I placed the key onto something which ende up in the esky. The esky is now in the boot.
I don't have a spare. So I guess on Monday when I come back from riding around a hill in Canberra I'll be drilling a hole & hopefully I can reach the rods connecting the latch with a narrow type of pliers.
The boot mechanism is fine. The problem is with the owner & his absent mindedness. The key has mysteriously gone missing. The only place it can be is inside the boot. I just have absolutely no recollection of where I put the key. But do recall alarm bells going off when opening the boot.
which happens every time I do it. except this time, instead of going into my pocket. It went somewhere else. cause it not in my pocket

early NA6s didn't have one... wasn't until 92 that they started appearing as standard....
