what is;- " a iStop off button to right of steering wheel Also a switch to turn off Adaptive front lighting system and FOW".

As far as I was aware adaptive lighting is built in to a lighting system?? If its just a switch for the lights all cars have that.

Why would anyone need/want to turn off adaptive lighting? I understand the need to turn off iStop due to brake pedal pressure issues. But lighting?

You sometimes prefer it not to auto turn lights on/off when in low light conditions - or in dim lit car parks where full lights on is just annoying

that is auto lights, not adaptive. adaptive is when the light beam move towards the direction the car is turning.

unless the earlier poster typed adaptive instead of auto by mistake??? does the new mx5 have adaptive lights?

Also with the large battery. More and more new cars require a larger battery simply as a fail safe.
I have had many of my regular mobile mechanic customers come in for new batteries after someones car just stopped mid drive due to low voltage in battery. Not your typical low voltage non start, but driving along, voltage drops below 10 and that's it. It goes into safe mode and shuts everything down. Not fun on a freeway apparently...

http://www.mazda.com/technology/safety/ ... y/afs.html

All these items may or may not be standard on the MX5...depends on the spec you buy.
Blind Spot monitoring looks to be on the list as well.

The i-Stop system needs a special design large battery - on a petrol about 67 amp hr (Q85) - they aren't cheap (or light)

So I am not that much more informed if the ND has all these features or any of them. We might be excused for being surprised that Mazda would load the car up with so many features when weight and presumably price sensitivity was an issue.

Morlock, my guess is that most of those 'features' are just a soft upgrade. That's how this 'self parking' thing took off. Companies realised that the existing features (parking sensors + electronic steering + existing nav screen) could be turned into self parking with just a program. 0 added weight, no added cost-per-car and you can sell it as an upgrade pack or use it as a marketing feature.

That's likly the case for many of these features. For something like 'blind spot', all you're talking about is an extra LED to light the warning light and an extra parking sensor and a few wires. Less than 100grams.

In my opinion, most of this stuff = too many drivers relying on too much tech rather than proper skills = lazy/dangerous people on the roads .....

There's so many lines on the body. I think it looks like it needs sanding or something.
