Am I the only one who HATES some of these modern interiors?

Not a fan of the 86 interior at all or this ND - way too many contours/edges and looks like a bunch of bits independently created and stuck together with superglue right at the end.

An interior should flow smoothly/organically and make the driver feel part of the car.

eg. On the passenger side dashboard, why does that recessed indent exist along the length of the dash?
It makes the passenger-side air vent look awkward.
If it was more flush, the HVAC controls could've been moved up higher which is always better since you don't have to lower your eyes as far to see/adjust them.

It doesn't look as horrendoues as the 86's though - that interior looks like it came out of China IMO.

I like the interior. The colour matched to the body panel colours is a nice touch.

And am I reading 195/50R16 on the side of the tyres?

it look like a truck battery. lol
they could've use something a little smaller.

i also notice the first part the aftermarket guys will create. the stock 3-4 point strut brace is in seperates pieces that bolt together. i'd expect cusco etc to make a one piece version.

and I'd just take it off and throw it away. :D Saving of 2 or 3 Kg there. It looks like a win for the marketing department over the engineers.

First popular mod looks like being another coolant re-route. I assume that this was a FWD motor?

Won't need a reroute. A puny 1.5 litre wont put out enough heat to hurt anything...

Nice pictures!

Not sold of this new model. It is a step forward in terms of features & styling... But styling just isn't for me.

Every generation of the MX5 has been, well, inherently an MX5. This new model reminds me of a cross between a S2000 & Z4... I do however like the interior. Mazda have done a great job of knocking off BMW in this respect & if the quality is the same as what is found in the Mazda 3, it'll be a good improvement.

Big question in my mind is will the new generation loose it's sole... Seems to be the way with most new models, making it more appealing to a wider range of people with electronic assists & the like.

I'm with you Lokiel..

Way too much going on with the interior...especially the mis-matched air vents and no glove box.

Reflections on the info panel and gauges looks like it will get annoying pretty quickly in full sunlight unless the roof is up.
( bad enough with the NC steering wheel in certain lighting and roof down ).

Hate the colour coding on the inside tops of the doors. Last car i had with that was an old ZA fairlane with boss running gear in the eighties

Love the wheels hopefully 4x100 and correct offset so i might get a set for my SP when a few people on here upgrade to the new model and change wheels
(16's not 17's Lokiel :lol: )

The battery needs to be bigger otherwise the Skynews technology won't work properly :lol:

I hate that giant screen. It's going to age awfully - in 3 years from now it'll look slow and low res.

Just indicates that this engine is still FAR from finalised - no way are they going to a put battery that large in there in the delivered version.

That's the problem with technology, it dates VERY quickly.

I'm really showing my age here but when the movie Battlestar Galactica was released they had lots of shots of the ray-traced displays in the Viper cockpits which looked very high-tech at the time but now looks positively ancient. Compare that to the Star Wars movie of the same vintage where they deliberately avoided focusing on any technology, apart from the holograms which are still cool; kids can still watch Star Wars today without ridiculing it a being ancient.

In a classic sports car, tablet displays just look out of place - at the very least, it should be possible to fold it down out of site.

Will be interesting to see how readable the screen is and how bad glare is with the roof down, especially here in Australia where it's not overcast much.

I actually like the colour coding on the doors, it helps eliminate the "too much black" look - I even modded mine using leather to match the door inserts, handbrake and gearstick boots and steering wheel.

They've gone back to 4 wheel studs since "it doesn't need 5" according to the Wheels article - surely they're using common sense with the ND and won't release it with 17" rims?

You see that in every Tokyo car. I vaguely remember it's for their local GPS and toll systems. Can't remember the name of it now ... VICS?

Looks much the same as the NC battery - far from truck size.
It doesn't have struts and the engine bay brace is very similar to the NC set up. It's easier to remove the small centre section to get to the #4 plug/coil than removing the whole bar.

It seems to have one of those silly noise snorkels as per the NC2 to pipe engine sound to the cabin. :roll:

The tyre to guard gap seems to have gotten bigger too. :?
